This place was fine(insane, which is regular in these parts) before someone posted the mod here. People have debates all the time, but that doesn't mean the place is toxic.
I've lurked on this thread quite a bit and consider it to be one of the best threads on the forum. Its still a great thread despite what happened.
There are far worse threads that have a clique mentality, where they don't welcome new people, and they let some of their regular members treat people like garbage.

Well, I was thinking about the sometimes less than civil debates about what races ought to be able to romance Cassandra. I'm not active enough in this thread to call it names like "toxic," but as an observer, it looks like one of the more divided to me.
Well, I created a group for those actually interested in using the mod to talk about it away from here. I hope that makes everyone happy and keeps the peace.

Kind of meh about this one, tbh. Doesn't really look like her. Nose really throws it off.
Ah yes the qunari argument of 2014, dark times indeed

I die a little inside whenever I see OTP.
But, y'know, I suspect that a big chunk of the harassment directed at Natalie isn't about "straight erasure" or "respecting creator's intent". A lot of the people who've come into this thread to say that they disapprove of what she did are Cass thread regulars. And they seem particularly intolerant to anything queer women do. I once went into the Cass thread to say that Cass being straight made me sad, and that BioWare had a history of writing women I wanted to romance as straight romances. It wasn't a call for action or change; I didn't say "mod this!" or "Biower u suk!" All I said was that I was sad about it. But my post came in for a wave of opprobrium from many of those male Cass thread regulars all the same. It's not merely that they disapprove of other people having the temerity to mod Cass to be bi in their own games. It sometimes seems more that they can't stand the thought of anybody but themselves even being interested in the character, or having feelings about her.
From another thread.
Someone should have told me we were a group of rabid queer-haters who lash out at lesbians and preach intolerance, and are unable to cope with the thought that a gay person might want to romance Cassandra. I must have missed that memo.
So not only am I a misogynistic rapist N@zi white hetero male gamer, but I guess I'm also a lesbian-hating, intolerant Cassandra romancer. God, I am such an a**hole for having these traits that other people label me as having.

Not only Qunari - being called a freak because I play as Inquisitor Cadash wasn't exactly funny. ![]()

There actually were a few straight posters that antagonized lesbians when Cassandra was revealed as straight. Most of their posts got deleted, I think.

Well, some of you do sort of act that way towards gay women actually succeeding at romancing Cassandra.

Yea, those people just sucked the fun away for awhile

This.
There was a sh*t ton of "HAHA, IN YO' FACE, STUPID STRAIGHT/GAY PEOPLE!" going on back then in virtually every character thread as people found out their orientations.
Well, some of you do sort of act that way towards gay women actually succeeding at romancing Cassandra.
Well, this certainly didn't take long.
"SOME OF YOU are intolerant lesbian-haters, not ALL OF YOU."
No, we're not. In a group of tens if not hundreds of people, a gross minority of people who actually do believe whatever backwards viewpoint they have does not constitute "you guys". Even an otherwise benign statement like "some of you" is so incredibly vague and nondescript that it's entirely meaningless.
"Some of you". Well, no sh*t Sherlock, that's how individuals in groups work.
If I'm coming across as a bit mad, it's because I'm really done with being labelled a misogynist queer-hater, just because I happen to occupy space with people who actually are misogynistic queer-haters. But I guess I'm one of them too, even though interest in a fictional character is literally the only trait I share with them.

I did find it ironic that no one posted a female tears pic with Cassandra after the reveal like some did with Sera

Oh you. You do know Cassandra calls you dude the entire time, yeah? Some victory. Everyone in here needs to calm their ******, no womanhate intended.

Firstly, that wasn't what I said. What I said was that there were people outraged that lesbians had managed to romance Cassandra. Any extrapolations about how much misogyny/homophobia was involved were entirely made by you.
Secondly, I said "some" because actually naming individuals would probably count as harassment. Which I don't want to do.

Except that is patently false hyperbole.
Nobody was 'outraged' by the revelation that Cassandra was straight. No rational, thinking people. Probably a crazy out there who actually flipped a sh*t, but they're hardly representative of anything.
I first planned on romancing Sera when I began to look into DAI's companions. When I found out she was strictly same-sex for females, I shrugged and went about my way, instead choosing romance Cassandra when I began to play. I didn't get angry and write an emotionally charged Tumblr blog like you're implying with 'outrage'. I made a female Inquisitor with which to romance Sera, I didn't b*tch and complain that a character was unavailable to my orientation, because I'm not a 5-year old who creates problems where there are none.
And that's where the problem lies, is people who are too stupid and immature to simply accept that a character isn't straight/gay/whatever, instead feeling the need to moan and complain, tainting an otherwise normal and healthy message board and creating labels. Some people were mad that a bi mod was made for Cassandra and some people took to harassing the mod maker, so now I'm a gay-hater by association. F**king wonderful.
