If I'm coming across as a bit mad, it's because I'm really done with being labelled a misogynist queer-hater, just because I happen to occupy space with people who actually are misogynistic queer-haters. But I guess I'm one of them too, even though interest in a fictional character is literally the only trait I share with them.

 

Why the heck do you care? It's a bit amusing to see you ramble along but I don't quite get why. I might not always agree with you but you surely don't seem like a misogynist to me. If you were I probably would have gotten a taste of it (unless you are a tactful, polite misogynist in which case I wouldn't care). Why do you get hung up on what somebody says? Well, some of you do sort of act that way towards gay women actually succeeding at romancing Cassandra.

 

Why should it be classed as something we have "succeeded" at? It isn't like it was never a possibility for us to romance her and people have just suddenly discovered a way to do it. It all comes across as "In your face, straight dudes!"  -- Well, to me it does, anyway.

 

Seriously, it is a game and I doubt the men that currently post in this thread on a regular basis give two shits about whether or not a woman rolls a male character and does the Cass romance. It's called role playing, yeah? 

 

Edit: And I have just seen the other thread. Well, I'm with Artifice. I personally wouldn't want to mod a players sexuality but yeah, none of my business if someone does. At the same time, if the mods are successful, I don't think they should be used as way to shout "na na na-na-na" at straight male gamer's. That **** is beyond childish.

I do tend to ignore it.

 

But it's not just here on the BSN. I used to frequent a lot of video game sites before that whole GamerGate thing started and those same sites began to shun and distance themselves away from people like me based on "he's white and male, so he must be a violent, woman-hating rapist". At first I just stopped reading those sites, but then the sh*t pervaded non-gaming sites like YouTube with Anita Sarkeesian and her terribly poorly 'researched' nonsense, so I stayed away from gaming videos and channels on YouTube, since they all took sides and I just wanted to stay away. Then the sh*t hits the news (actual headline: "are video games causing men and boys to become violent to women?") and since it's the news, they blow everything out of proportion for clicks and viewers. Now we have things like this mod where mouth-breathing troglodytes who actually ARE queer and woman-hating trolls are mingling with people who AREN'T and making us look like them, and that idiotic episode of Law & Order, which wasn't even subtle with its "MALE GAMERS ARE EVIL AND WILL LITERALLY KILL YOU" message. Since the large majority of people are retarded and don't bother to actually research the kinds of people those videos and articles talk about, they just lump "men who are a**holes" and "otherwise normal men" into one singular "men" category, and it's socially impossible to defend myself because of it. If a woman knows I play video games and says I beat her, what am I going to say in my defense? For half a year now it's been hammered into the brains of everyone with a TV or computer that male gamers are Satan reincarnate.

 

For the past 6 months, it's like everything I read or watch has some kind of "you're a bad person because you're a male" angle to it, and it's getting really old. I can't just ignore it anymore because it's EVERYWHERE. Hell, there are entire websites dedicated to the "straight men are the devil" trope with Tumblr and Jezebel. Even otherwise benign and harmless websites like Cracked are turning into the uber-PC nonsense cliques of 'normal people' vs. 'men'.

This place was fine(insane, which is regular in these parts) before someone posted the mod here. People have debates all the time, but that doesn't mean the place is toxic.

You shouldn't stay away, but ranting won't help a damn thing. If you don't think you're a bad person it should be fine. Do you really need appreciation from such people?

It's not only about men. You think I haven't read my fair share of ranting about how female gamers are all fat, ugly, weird, socially incompetent or whatever? **** it.

They will also regularly claim video gaming made people run amok.

And I personally am annoyed as hell by everybody who complains about skimpy clothing/armor for female game characters. How it's sexist and all that nonsense.

All that only about gaming. You can expand the scope to other topics and in the end come to the conclusion that absolutely everything in the world is somehow evil. Men, women, dogs, trees, or even cheesecake (for the sugar and fat).

But there's just no point in giving it additional attention. Unless you like to be mad in that case... ramble on.
