I think its because there is no time to say yours reason, the Nightmare is coming and you need to make the decision quick.Just try to dodge it like Varric.
I think they should had gave the choice more depth. Why did Loghain and Hawke leave that choice up to the inquisitor to decide? And why did the Inquisitor just say their name, and not give reason to why he picked that certain person. Maybe that's crossing into the auto-dialogue lane.
But in Orlais the children produced via mistress are actual members of the house. Assuming Gaspard claimed them.
