I'm not adverse to pairings, I'm just adverse to pairings that make no sense whatsoever, like Cassandra and Varric.
 
Not only is it illogical for them to end up with each other in any fashion, but they outright state that they don't feel anything for each other.

Varric and Cassandra do make sense, but I'm not the best person to explain it. As for them outright saying it, if u notice in the banter cassandra does not argue against the idea. The banter also does not (to my knowledge) come up if u romance cassandra.

Still, its a plausible pairing.

If you really want to know why, go and ask in the swords and sheilds thread. There are people in there who are much better at explaining this, then I'am.

I ship it when the inquisitor is not avalible in a playthrough( romancing someone else) or in Finquisitors case, I ship it because cass doesnt like women (and she never will.)

In general, I really don't understand why people feel the need to always ship something. It even annoys me. Soon as a new series comes up starring a female and male lead they inevitably have to end up together anyway.

Like Cass were the type who desperately needed to end up with somebody. I've never felt it would make sense. The two like each other, respect each other, but that does not mean they need to get romantically involved. And there is Bianca, as pointed out before. That Varric cannot be with her does not mean he doesn't love her or could simply turn away.

Everybody can headcanon whatever he likes, it's fine by me. I personally don't imagine them getting involved. Cass falls for the inquisitor because reasons. But that's it, an exception, because he's so special and all that. If he doesn't romance her she won't run around looking for a mate under her command (or at least associated with her troops).

More seriously, Bianca is one of the main reason that ship will never float for me. Varric is not ready (and most important, not willing*) to let her go. Whoever would fall for him would be stuck in Bibi's shadows, and that is not a fate I wish for Cass - or any woman, really. Cass deserves someone's unconditional love, nothing less - she lost so many of the people who were important to her (when you think of it, Galyan, her first (and depending of your Inquisitor, maybe only) love, was killed by the guy Hawke and Varric set unintentionally free), it would be cruel to force her to play the second fiddle to Bianca.

Hawke may have had a small chance to talk to him, but not Quizzie. And definitely not Cass.

 

Anyway, this is why I'll never join the Cass/Varric topic. It might be all love and suggar and unicorns, but no one loves a party pooper.

Actually we just discussed this in the Varric, and Cass thread. Why some people feel the need to ship things? Well I can't speak for my fellow tethraghasters, but for me it's been a thing for so long, that I don't know how to stop.  If I recall correctly it started , one of my favourite series ended. It was an abrupt ending, and  I was left wondering what happened, and did character A get with character B, or possibly that new guy in season 3?

 

On the 56k dial up internet, I searched the series and found like-minded individuals on a forum. Then FF.net came along, and yeah.

What's with this obsession with canon? Like, yeah, Varric/Cassandra isn't canon because Bianca/Varric is canon, but that doesn't mean people can't find their personalities interesting together and want to read about it in a "what-if" scenario. That's what fanworks are for. You might as well not write any fanfic or draw any pictures at all, if you're dismissing a pairing just because it doesn't happen in the vanilla game.

 

I don't ship Varric/Cassandra, but all that means is that I don't read fanfic of them. That simple. I don't get this ridiculous policing of the fan sphere, as if people are only allowed to create things that you personally approve of, as if the existence of a Varric/Cassandra fanfic is a genuine moral outrage instead of just a personal preference.

 

My motto for fanworks is the same as in real life. Do whatever you want, as long as you're not harming  or threatening anybody.

Cassandra can kill dragons,  so she is quite capable of riding a unicorn. She would totally deck it out in seeker themed armour.
