Corypheus is OK.
I just think the game needed more intrigue, military/war backdrops, and politics.

If I recall, we had a scene of grey wardens fighting darkspawn, before the game actually begun.
That's more of an entry to lore. Not the game. Broadstrokes on all the history. Because it's the first story. Kind of like how LoTR starts.
I'm talking about your personal story (similar to how LoTR kicks to Frodo's story, after that opening sequence).

It's still the beginning of the game and the story they want to tell

It's a cutscene. Probably 2 mins long.
It ain't sh*t.

Still grabs the audience.
And you're comparing it to ME3's beginning? One gives you a good scoop on lore, while the other is "sound and fury, signifying nothing". It's just action for the sake of it.
Sorry if I got too snarky. I found Corypheus a bit inane as well.
I never really hated him, I never really feared him, I never really felt him much at all.
Yeah, he wasn't really anything fearworthy, I think AbilityDrain put it best in her youtube review of the game;
"In the end, it felt like all I was doing was beating a broken and deformed old man suffering with delusions of grandeur, with a stick..."
Now Nightmare on the other hand, that thing would have been amazing (and terrifying) to have as a main antagonist.

It doesn't matter if it's a cutscene or not, it can still pull people in

I thought Cory worked kind of well as a sounding board or contrast on the Faith issues explored. A little extra bonus if you yourself felt defined by Tevinter in one way or another (works pretty good for a mage). But it relies a lot on subtext.. nothing really explicit.

I like this post + infinity.
I initially wanted the Elder One to be a fade entity. An extremely old and extremely complex denizen of the fade, a being adhering to an idea of such enormity that it has no single name in any common language. I wanted the scope of our concept of the Fade to be broadened and deepened, and our concept of Fade spirits and their limitations to irrevocable altered.
I suppose in some ways I wanted the The Reapers (the Reaper, singular) 2.0.
Instead, we got Corypheus. Meh.

It does matter, because the game experience goes to the Character Creator afterwards... in which case, whatever thrills you got from a cutscene will be forgotten after you spend an hour in the CC. And then launch yourself in a fairly toned down setting (except maybe the Dalish one). Which lasts an hour or two.

I'm not comparing it to anything. I said storyteller knows that they need to do something to make the audience want more. Start off with something big, and then slow things down. And Leaving Earth was more than what you described. Shepard was watching humanity fall.
Sorry, did you say something? That juggalo avatar is distracting.
You have no taste to begin with. I can't take you seriously.

I see that, but I felt more personal subtext with some of Bioware's other antagonists. I'm a complete mark when it comes to things feeling deeply personal for the Protagonist. Those moments are always my favorites.
On the other hand, I'm in the minority on some of my favorites. I loved Saren and Petrovsky, but not in the same way as a lot of their fans. I don't think they were really heroes, I just enjoyed them as the villains.

Grow up.
You're the one playing Brock Lesnar with facepaint. And a teen, if I recall.

They really should have let us spend more time on Earth to have people feel anything for that ![]()

I personally like villains like Saren and Petrovky, and Sun Li myself, I also don't have a problem with people like Cory either
They was doing fine with him till after Haven, he was ok in the Arbor Wilds too

I don't remember Petrovksy being memorable? In the game at least. I read the comics later, which was a little better.
But... but... the little kid!! T.T!!!!!
Oh god, that was the worst offender out of the whole thing
