Happy to serve.

I'll always remember that scene. It's basically represents that Cassandra's a badass. Her presence made everyone stop what they were doing.

Here's another thing I'll add --- a paraplegic human is a better pairing with Cass than some of these others.

I'll find it really cool to see a disabled vet and a wife who stuck it out with him. Very cool.

But that isn't the same as pairing up a woman with freaks and monsters.

Too late. Three pages of the conversation.

We can stop it anytime. I think he's trying to make an appeal to me somehow, and I'd be the first to tell him it's useless. I'll never come around. The only thing that keeps me talking is I know we're all human. And I can make my case on that level. It's not like I'm talking to actual dwarves and Qunari.

Didn't the last one go about 10 pages before a mod showed up?

The paraplegic has nothing to do with the argument as far as I can see. (Though I could see Cassandra calmly picking up a paraplegic Inquisitor on her back and carrying him to a romantic date.) I'd understand your complaints if we were talking about people delighting in making porn of Cassandra and a horde of varren. But freaks and monsters /=/ Adaar. Because something looks different does not make it monstrous or inhumanly ugly. Within the setting, Qunari are sapient beings. Same as the dwarves, elves, and humans. Just because they don't fit within your standards of beauty does not mean anyone who does find them attractive gets branded with 'pervert' or 'deviant'.

We're not talking a Minotaur situation here. We're talking about people from two different races having a relationship.

Why should a mod show up anyways? It's just fantasy races. How can people feel like I'm touching a raw nerve? I'm not saying anything controversial.

I think so. Funny how no mods showed up for the 20+ page for the bi-cassandra mod. They're probably tired of this thread.

I was trying to understand the logic behind what you were saying, not trying to convince you. And I still don't see any.

If it's bothering the thread and it's going nowhere, I'll drop it.

It's not standards of beauty so much as standards of normality. The closer these races resemble that, I'm cool. And when they don't, it's gross to see it sexualized. That's why I said female dwarves are cute, for example. They don't have to be beautiful, but they don't look so outlandish and "loud" in their features.

Ah, so you wouldn't make ridiculous insults to actual dwarves/qunari?

What, that people who use certain races are defiling your waifu?

What? I don't even know how to answer that. It's irrelevant. There are no actual dwarves and qunari.

I know that's probably difficult for you.. you're one of the most immersed people on this site. But I'm telling you, your question is stupid.

In our world, they're freaks and monsters. In Thedas, they're par for the course. The standard of beauty is very different in the Dragon Age games. Doesn't mean that you have to like it, I agree.

Personally, I always see my Lavallan and Cassandra pairing as the most curious. Cassandra wants to be swept off her feet by a man who properly courts her. Yet there is no way that my ElfQusitor could ever physically lift the woman off her feet. Certainly not with her armor on, anyway...

I will agree with you on the design of the male Quanri. They seem far and away too top-heavy and bulky to be viable romance material. I personally, want to see a design that is a little more on the tall and lean side of things for the Qunari. I always thought this fit rather well(just substitute Cassandra of Josephine, here):

Weird. They'll usually say something during a heated debate, so that newcomers would see the warning.

True enough.

I think my main issue is I'll never be able to separate fantasy humans from real humans much. The real context is always going to pop up, even if subconsciously.

Human standards of beauty and sexual attraction can be extremely flexible. Nothing about this is unrealistic.

We could explore this and maybe.. just maybe get somewhere..

But it will take awhile. You're so immersed in this setting that you have genuine emotions surrounding, say, elven politics and religion. I just don't have time to hope you snap out of it and actually address things as a player and a person. It's like you're always in RP mode. Fat chance we'll get anywhere on Qunari and dwarves. It's like debating with a kid who talks to teddie bears -- and treats them as real friends.

Ah, so it looks like that supposition about not using ridiculous insults on people IRL was wrong, then. I can remove myself from immersion just fine, thanks; I just often don't because it's generally less interesting to me. But if you have something to say, say it.

Is it an insult? It is from my perspective, but I figured you'd be proud of it. Badge of honor and whatnot.

Do you want to be concrete and dull just like me? I'm happy then. ;) And in that case, dwarves and qunari aren't anything I need to worry about in real life.

Did you have material for a discussion on flexible standards of sexual attraction, or did you not?

Not if you're gonna try to shoehorn Dwarves and Qunari into it. I literally do not trust you to separate reality from fiction. A lot of your disputes at this site boil down to how seriously you take this stuff.

On the plus side, you're probably a helluva lot more imaginative than me too. So it's not like I don't see the benefits. Just saying.

True enough.

I think my main issue is I'll never be able to separate fantasy humans from real humans much. The real context is always going to pop up, even if subconsciously.

That's fair. What I try to do with standards of beauty is the same thing I try to do with LGBT or religion issues in Bioware games. I try to dial back my opinions in the real world and instead focus on what my character, in the context of the world in which he or she was raised, would believe in each case.

As far as beauty is concerned, I try to think along the same lines. It took a lot for my male Dalish elf in DA:O to romance Morrigan. He had to overcome his aversion to humans on a romantic level. On the other hand, my male Lavallan found Cassandra exciting precisely because she was human. The forbidden fruit angle, as it were.

Part of the reason I support what Bioware did with the romances in DA:I is that they showed that people(even fictional ones) have their limits. Cullen is fairly conservative in his outlook, so dwarves and qunari are just too far out of his comfort zone for him to deal with on a romantic level. Solas is very elven oriented, so the idea of dallying with a non-elf is simply out of the question. Sera, meanwhile, doesn't like anyone too 'elfy' and makes her favoritism towards qunari very clear, but she is willing to make exceptions if the elf in question is attractive enough.

With Cassandra, it's clear that a man's faith is more important than looks. She makes more remarks about whether or not an Inquisitor believes in the Maker than about whether they are an elf, dwarf or qunari. Personally, I think her physical attraction to individual men relies on her finding them an attractive person first. You can even see this king of thing in Dawn of the Seeker. Cassandra never acknowledges Regalyan romantically until he shows that he's a quality guy. I imagine she didn't even notice he was handsome until then. For her, physical attraction comes AFTER personal attraction. For others, it comes before or during. Each person is different. Yay for diversity?
