What? I don't even know how to answer that. It's irrelevant. There are no actual dwarves and qunari.

I know that's probably difficult for you.. you're one of the most immersed people on this site. But I'm telling you, your question is stupid.

Technically yes, but the term is considered derogatory to little people.

Are you saying this guy is a freak because he has dwarfism?

What I don't understand is how "little people" isn't considered much, much more derogatory.

That's fair. What I try to do with standards of beauty is the same thing I try to do with LGBT or religion issues in Bioware games. I try to dial back my opinions in the real world and instead focus on what my character, in the context of the world in which he or she was raised, would believe in each case.

As far as beauty is concerned, I try to think along the same lines. It took a lot for my male Dalish elf in DA:O to romance Morrigan. He had to overcome his aversion to humans on a romantic level. On the other hand, my male Lavallan found Cassandra exciting precisely because she was human. The forbidden fruit angle, as it were.

Part of the reason I support what Bioware did with the romances in DA:I is that they showed that people(even fictional ones) have their limits. Cullen is fairly conservative in his outlook, so dwarves and qunari are just too far out of his comfort zone for him to deal with on a romantic level. Solas is very elven oriented, so the idea of dallying with a non-elf is simply out of the question. Sera, meanwhile, doesn't like anyone too 'elfy' and makes her favoritism towards qunari very clear, but she is willing to make exceptions if the elf in question is attractive enough.

With Cassandra, it's clear that a man's faith is more important than looks. She makes more remarks about whether or not an Inquisitor believes in the Maker than about whether they are an elf, dwarf or qunari. Personally, I think her physical attraction to individual men relies on her finding them an attractive person first. You can even see this king of thing in Dawn of the Seeker. Cassandra never acknowledges Regalyan romantically until he shows that he's a quality guy. I imagine she didn't even notice he was handsome until then. For her, physical attraction comes AFTER personal attraction. For others, it comes before or during. Each person is different. Yay for diversity?

Even faith doesn't matter. It's all very gamey and inclusive. It works well when you do play that way, but you don't have to. She's at the behest of any kind of character.

People tried to equivocate this issue with Gaider too, when he made some comments about dwarf romances.. as if he was being discriminatory on real life little people. But he was dismissive, and i'll be too. It's a completely different fantasy race. Not the same thing.

But herein lie with what sucks about these racial debates. I can't even talk about dwarves, without social justice coming into the picture. Or I'm racist, if I don't like Qunari. I never experienced this with warhammer or d&d.. or whatnot.

It doesn't matter how much work you put in helping minorities, or being a minority yourself.. all of that is is for nought, your efforts in vain, if you didn't like some fictional circumstance. lol

Difference being that Gaider's comment was taken completely out of context

Seeing that you called dwarves along with Qunari freaks, it's really no surprised that some would take issue with it

Yeah, read my post above again. Added more. This is a bigger injustice. That people aren't even capable of putting discrimination or racism in it's proper context anymore.

I'll always remember that scene. It's basically represents that Cassandra's a badass. Her presence made everyone stop what they were doing.

Whenever I see that scene I think she has a limp, but she doesn't walk like that in any other scene afaik.

Hey Ventus, I saw this and thought of you:

(spoilered because off topic)

Spoiler

I'm saving this.

Also, I don't think you need the spoiler tags, considering how out of 1145 pages, only about a third or so of them are actually on topic. Not a single thread on this entire website stays on topic for very long.

It's not just a Qunari thing.

It's also just the design. It's bad art.

If I knew a Blackwall and female Adaar pairing, I'd probably shake Blackwall's hand. I could ignore a lot of the tackiness of the Qunari's presence and the generally crappy reason why they suddenly rule half of Thedas and just say "Hey Blackwall, not bad. She's kinda hot."

I can't say the same for the males. It's just gross and ridiculous looking. It makes me feel sorry for Cassandra's role, that some player forces her to exist that way. And it amplifies every other criticism I have of the Qunari.

I agree. The male Qunari in Inquisition just don't look.... Right. The FemQunari tend to be alright, and Bull is okay (except for his head being too small for his body), but I haven't seen a single player-made DudeQunari who looked even halfway decent.

That said, I'm glad they changed the Qunari's look from 2 to DAI. I already don't plan on playing a Qunari, but I would NEVER even entertain the idea if I had to play a DA2-looking Qunari (nor would I ever romance someone with one, it would be too disjointed and weird for me). I like their look in 2, but I don't want to play as one.

One thing that always bothers me about fan comics like that that feature Qunari Inquisitors, is that they never actually get the "Qunari" part right. The Qunari Inquisitor isn't a follower of the Qun, so he wouldn't be a Saarebas if he were a mage, like how he wouldn't be a Sten, Karashok, Ashaad, etc, if he were any other class/specialization. The Qunari Inquisitor is Vashoth (not Tal-Vashoth), meaning he/she was born outside the Qun. Their parents are Tal-Vashoth; they left the Qun.

Even if they WERE a follower of the Qun, his horns would be sawed off and his mouth would be stitched shut if he were a mage, on top of always being followed and controlled by an Arvaarad.

I've been curious where they did learn magic though. All of these various schools don't come naturally. It's like these Vashoth have something as educational as keepers and circles. The qunari culture itself just seems to train mages to be lighting bombs. They're not seen as students, but weapons. One devastating school of magic.

Don't get me started on the tailored suits, ball room dancing, and reciting poetry either :D

I'm guessing they learned magic from the Valo-Kas, the merc group that the QunQuisitor was a part of before the events of the game.

I mean them as well. When did that start? Not just the individual Adaar. I just want to know why they're so human.. even down to the magic.

They probably learned them from Apostates or the Mage Collective

I guess it worked for Hawke and Morrigan. Maybe the Qunari mercs lug around Grand Enchanter level schooling.

On another note, it sucks that they turn out to be the best mages, even more than elves. Vitaar looks stupid, but it gives a 20% dmg boost, I think. And they get melee def if you're a KE.

I take it you never actually bothered to play a Qunari mage since it's outright said where a qunari mage learned magic. The codex and a dialogue with Vivienne both say that a qunari mage inquisitor learned magic from a free saarebas.

But wouldnt a saarebas be a hedge mage? Would he know how to control his power?

You'd have pay me to play it. I'll set up a Pay Pal exchange if you want. My price is reasonable. :)

Free saarebas could use it's own explanation too. Saarebas were once compared to hedge mages, who were only useful in one type of destructive magic (it's somewhere in this interview).

In any case, it kind of makes elves and humans look even more stupid than Qunari. Ironically. For having keepers and circles and lifetime training, only to get one upped by some random Qunari merc. Who has equal knowledge and more power.

Somehow, I managed to make Cassandra Divine.

You know, at first the jokes about her anger issues were funny, but I didn't like that literally every companion says the same thing.

They're all like "Pffft. Cassandra? Divine? You can't be serious."

Not a single one said "I believe she's a good choice."

There's a lot more to Cass than the sword-swinging, bear-punching, outside would suggest. She opens up more with the Inquisitor, but she's more Seeker Pentaghast towards the others.

Plus she actually sees the office of Divine as a spiritual one, most characters like Leliana, Vivienne, and Dorian are more focused on the political aspect. So when you have someone like Cass who is very blunt and openly disdains politics become a major political figure its a bit of a shock.
