I personally believe that you start becoming an "adult " when you're in your mid 20s , this is just an opinion of course, yes there are people in that age range that dont have the slightest clue as to what responsibility means but those people are the exception not the norm. Having said all that at 16 i already considered myself an adult, i was a dumb kid but who cares about logic at that age.

In any case, I don't know if these other issues have anything to do with age. I just think some people take pride in victimhood. Or something. Or want the "minority" experience, without even being one half the time. I don't know why. It's not fun and games.

I missed this, maybe was an edit, but I agree.

Most annoying thing, people acting like their sexuality being different is the same as being a minority in ethnicity.

I didn't have that in mind. Seems like it could be anything. Whatever you want to be oppressed about. It's suddenly equal to Rosa Parks and ****.

It was the most relevant example to bioware I could think of. I don't much entertain or pay much attention to other examples though anyway. For sanity sake.

I assume BW does not want to touch any racial issues that could be compared to our world. So the discrimination of elves is how they tackle it (just that the elves themselves have worked hard to stay on unfriendly terms with outsiders), trying to avoid discrimination among human/dwarven/qunari/elven peoples.

In fact I even wonder if there are any different races among elves, dwarves, qunari? They do all look pretty much the same to me. And there's not exactly many Viviennes around either.

Maybe sexual orientation isn't yet so "dangerous" to deal with?

Small vague differences not actually brought up in game, like elves and resistance to cold, or Qunari being more hearty and resistant to some poisons, or something like that. There are differences but most of it is cultural. Which, actually is pretty much how it works irl too, so.

I'd say though that yes, tackling sexuality probably is safer than issues of race. Bigger uproar could come from race. TES sure doesn't give a damn though, lol. Neither did Bioshock Infinite. Bioware's pulling punches lately.

Why should BioWare deal with race especially in the same way we do here in the 'real world'?  Different world different contexts.  Since Thedas seems to be based on Europe you are not going to have a lot of ethnic looking people.

Aside from this though BioWare has dealt with race, a lot, internally, and recently.  The Masked Empire really went into huge detail about how the Elves, the Dalish, view City Elves...and vice versa.  How the Qunari view humans, and vice versa, and how the Qunari view others of their 'species' not of the Qun...which can almost seem to be 'racial' differences given that race at times are largely meaningless distinctions.

I spoke of interracial differences, like between elven people, not between elves and qunari etc. I mean that all elves in Thedas look alike to me. They are usually (I might say "all" but I don't want to state something wrong without proof) white. There doesn't seem to be "Asian elves" or "African elves" or anything. Same for the other races. Only humans show variety and that is never an issue (which I do not dislike, actually).

I have a hard time remembering the exact conversation so you will forgive me...but I seem to remember my health teacher going into brief detail on how everyone that belongs to a certain group tends to all look the same from an uninformed outsider.  Hence all black people could look the same, all asians, all cats, until you pay attention and really study the differences.  So, maybe the Elves really are very different and we just do not notice? :P

Here Cass thread, have a cute-and-tough Cass wearing Ardent Blossom, since I dropped it yesterday (after months of longing for it).

I originally took the screens and posted it on Solas thread for Colonel, but since he missed it, here we go again.

That's... really... not true... There's big ethnic variation in Europe.

But I think that's not the point. The point is that BW does not want to bring it up. They want to show a world where different heritage among one race does not matter. And I approve of that. They still try to show discrimination, so they bring in elves vs. humans and the like.

I only wanted to point out that this is why people with a different sexual orientation might find it easier to feel represented as a minority, because BW does actually tackle those issues while staying away from other conflicts from our world. I really only replied to Colonel.

So to the second part: that is exactly what I said. They disregard human races and instead show a discrimination that cannot exactly be mapped but compared to our world. However, I do not read the books.

But he does acknowledge I'd see the basic difference between skin colors?

I can usually see if somebody is Japanese, Chinese, or Korean, so I think I'm fine enough. :)

That's cool. Kind of frustrates me when I point out those differences and someone doesn't notice.

I can't tell them apart.  Wonder if that says that I don't paya ttention or am such an individualist that such petty differences matter little?:P

I used to live in Japan for a while and I've travelled a lot and I'm probably just an observing type of person anyway.

But in general I actually think the world would be a lot better if people couldn't only not tell different Asians apart but no human races at all. People are just people.

A-freaking-men.  I still ocassionally get very annoyed thinking about a FB convo I had once on race and diversity.  Annoyed that I participated in it so long, and annyed at the contents.  Seems we are still a long way away from Living King's Dream.

They have elves of varying skincolors. Besides the inquisitors and such, we have zevhran and fenris. Basically, city elves are varied while dalish aren't usually, and this makes sense due to their limited gene pool.

Sorry if this was already pointed out.

Unfortunately that is so. Because it's just too easy to discriminate people based on something they are born into instead of having to actually do something to feel superior. You can be lazy, boring, weak, and the most stupid idiot without a proper education, but if you're a racist you can still think you're "better" than others. And you will find like-minded idiots who cheer you on and make you feel important.

I really didn't notice that. They were all "white" to me. My skin is also lighter than my mom's and dad's, skin type and stuff; I guess I accept a too large margin of variation.
