No more tasteless than the pairing itself.
It was cute when people made some funny pics pre-release. But it never ends. Tumblr seems to be obsessed.
It's not as bad as Sam and Dean getting it on though.
I do not like that pairing, but there is a big difference between stating your dislike of the thing and implying there is something wrong with the people who still ship them.

I understand you want to me to be more polite though. Perhaps just out of respect for that, I'll drop it. It's not like I need to carry on about it.

Ehhh, for Varric and Cass maybe, since I think half the people that do it just do so because they know it's a silly pairing that would never work.
For those shipping Sam and Dean, two brothers? No, there's absolutely screws loose.
And as for those shipping Varric with Cass, I dunno, poor taste isn't really a crime, that's all I can say. Do what you want, I'll just scroll past.

There's a crowd that would embrace that kind of dynamic. And they would prefer it even over a funnier, healther relationship. And do it incessantly...like they're almost obsessed and build online communities around it. It's beyond a joke now. So I turn Varric's joke into a serious retort.

Sure.. and I consider him kind of integral to even making the romance work... maybe indirectly, but he's kind of the matchmaker.

Personally, imo it's just a harmless fun little community, and none of them have come here claiming 'non-tethraghast' fans as being 'idiots, abusive'(or whatever word you can think off). All of them, have been (to the best of my knowledge) respectful to the non-shippers in here, so shouldn't the non-shippers show that back?

Personally, imo it's just a harmless fun little community. I really don't see the big problem, at all.
I see the problem when they don't even want to talk about the actual Cass/Varric anymore and just celebrate their own random stuff. The same goes with any fan fiction, when people start overwhelming a discussion about a show or movie with their own random ideas..and think it's just as important. Else you're hurting their feelings or something. lol

They're respectful enough. I didn't say that. The thread creator early on tried to make some rules on what could be discussed though (which was limited to her vision of these two). And then I started seeing that take root after awhile. When I offered more dissenting (i.e. actual game based) opinions later, I was told it was unwelcome.

Meh I am deep into fan fiction and into Role Playing. But BioWare is in charge I adapt to serve their needs they do not adapt to serve mine.

Well I should say except when they phoned the ending in on ME 3. My creative nerd rage over that was rather glorious.

Fan fiction is cool.. and I think there are a lot of creative people doing it. I just don't like this level of arrogance or claims of creative ownership.
I think the Bi discussion is worse though. One statement stuck with me.. about "How I paid for the game. And I just see it as a starting point. I can expand on Cass with my own ideas." I'm paraphrasing, but it was along those lines. The word "starting point" annoyed me. It's not a starting point.
And I'm someone who wished there was an actual bi Cass prerelease.

This does bring to mind though how someone once commented on 'they never saw that side in James Vega' before...and I did wonder if it was because I saw something in the character that wasn't there or was it a valid interpretation?

You can't really compare the bi-mod to tethraghast. Tethraghast is just shipping, that works reasonably well. It doesn't fundamentally change their character, or mess with the games code.
