I wonder what Cassandra was like as a kid?
Traumatized and trapped. You get a glimpse in the anime.
Dead parents, dead brother, and creepy necromancer uncle.... I can't blame her for being angry and running off to the Chantry on her own. Trevelyan is forced to be in the Chantry, but Cass is the type who went willingly.

It's make up. Not some skin ailment. lol. Red lipstick. And darkish green/black eyeshadow.

I did initially think it was wood ash, that was a popular treatment for headaches a few centuries back.
But the sickly greenish hue threw me off.

Her eyes are a darkish green/grey, if you examine the model closely (unlike DA2, when they were brown). That's why the makeup is that shade.

I'd rather it be something a bit more practical then some blubber laced wax but eh...if she wants to live it up a bit she can.

It's normal for this kind of detail to be put in the game character designs.. things like makeup and such. It you want to build a story around it, knock yourself out. I think it's just an artistic choice, on the part of the designers.

It isn't?
Not really. All of this focus on details is weird. The hardness of her hair, the hue of her makeup and what it's made of..
Pretty soon it'll be Tali sweat all over again.
It either looks good or bad. That's about the only importance.

And I don't care for...sweat or whatever that is that took off with the mancers.
o.o her fluids are her business.

I don't think it'll ever be that bad in a non-scifi setting. That being said, observation is never wrong, at least within reason. The proof of the pudding is in the eating.

I am me after all.
o.o knives, chains and chemicals aren't disgusting though.
Torture is expression.

Actually yes.
I'd assumed it was some sort of natural deformity. Selective pigmentation deficiency or perhaps even minor necrosis.
I've seen similar cases in fingers and toes.
Hahaha...
I honestly can't.. see Cassandra of all people using make up.
Wait... you weren't kidding?
While I agree with Magic that it's simply to make the character look "prettier" and that the designers do not consider the personality much here, I still don't see the problem. Cass is a warrior, she is practical, she is strong. So what? Why does that mean she can't care about her looks? Why should she not use make up or treat her hair? Why can't something be pretty and practical? She reads those romance novels, she wants poems and flowers and the big knight-in-shiny-armor love story. She is not an "atypical woman" after all. Why wouldn't she also wish to be pretty?
And just to make it clear, that's all rhetoric questions because I simply think she can be a warrior and still want to be pretty. I see no point in saying it's mutually exclusive. That's the same nonsense as before, all over only in a different shade of green: also a lesbian can wear frilly girly clothes and long her. Same thing is true for a warrior. Cass could have long hair and wear a skirt in her free time while still being that badass warrior. Nobody is only one thing.

I don't mind entertaining the reasons for the details.
I just think you're weird. That's all.
I'd rather discuss it with Siha above. Or any woman here.
And what the **** does torture have to do with anything?

Except she's never shown interest in those things. She's never shown an interest in "looking pretty,"quite the opposite. The fact that she wears makeup doesn't really change that.

Hahaha...
I know it's amusing.
The saddening thing is that it's real.
Necrosis can set in from in infection or even certain auto immune disorders and then your body dies outside in.
Surgically it can be stopped, restricted to a single area, I always found it sad.
Life is fragile.

I've noticed you think that before. I don't know why you chose BSN of all places to exhibit it though. There's gotta be a better place.

So between Cass' penchant for punching things, her desire to throttle things, her stabbing things, and Bull's comment to a romanced Cass asking if she's thought about using some of her combat moves in the bedroom (to which she asks "How do you know we haven't already?") I draw one thing from this....
Cass would LOVE BDSM.
*sniffs* this makes me so happy.... more importantly it makes Nasir happy as well.

Fetlife.
But it's pertinent to Cass so Z is still on topic.

I don't know anything about it. Other than that Z isn't talking BDSM. He often comes off as genuinely sadistic.
As for the romance, it seems more balanced and mutual.

Depends really. Some people in the BDSM community do engage in torture. There's CBT, knife-play, bloodletting, etc. The important thing is that it's safe, sane, and consensual. And you might think it's not sane, any of those things, but sanity in sexuality seems to be a rather subjective thing.
Also, nothing wrong with a little sadism. Like I said, long as it's consensual.
Anyway, back to Cass. I think she'd be a dominant. Not all the time for sexy times, but whenever she's in the mood for BDSM she's only dominant.
