I'm reminded of that line every time I see the character in better call Saul.
Is it any good? Better Call Saul?

I'll just say that I always liked the Chantry for being a Christian knockoff faction. It's easy to get into the mythos there. Roleplaying wise.
I view Bull as a character meant to make a joke out of all that. Almost instantly in Haven he's banging Chantry sisters. And the crudeness just stacks on from there. He's not so much a character, but a vehicle for Weekes and Bioware to signify how much they're cutting their ties with that element of their world. And he's popular for it. Everyone loves bashing the Chantry. Because they've got their own hangups about real religion. And Bioware is giving them what they want.

If you want. It could go bad though. lol
It's different.
Different? Does it feel like it's forced? Like... riding on the waves of fame Breaking Bad left behind?

I'm Christian as well, as Street already knows. I didn't much like that stupid joke in Haven either, though I shrugged it off. Guess there's a reason that bimbo's here and not with the rest. Templar boy in Val Royeaux wasn't too far off the mark about the rejects in the Inquisition.
Anyway, the Chantry's about as flawed as RL religious institutions. Moreso. I personally like the themes of hope the Andrastian faith offers. But I'm one of those that says the Chantry can **** off. As it is now at least. I didn't like the chantry sister banging bull because it was so casually put in despite all that BS in Kirkwall about religious and racial tension and hate. Then all of a sudden Bioware pisses all over that with total abandon and complete disregard for their own lore.
Like they do regularly.

No, it's just a different setting, new cast, new plot.
Maybe I'll watch an episode or two today.

To be fair, just because it racial tension exist doesn't mean each person feels that way

I don't worry about that. I feel pretty safe here in front of my laptop. I just don't want to derail the thread.
But, alright, I think you give Bull too much credit there. Maybe you are right, I wouldn't know, but your idea never occurred to me before. I think they only introduced this to shape his macho man image, not actually to dismantle the Chantry. Just this "He's so cool, he gets them all" thingy. While BW does try to depict all fractions as something to dislike (the Dalish, Chantry, Templars, (blood) mages, Qun,...) they also prevent a frontal assault. They give you that guy you meet in the beginning (I forgot his name), the Chantry man who is so opposed to "the Herald", and let him look like a douche, but when Haven is attacked, they turn him into a decent man who just cared for the people deeply. They establish one position and tear it down later. It's the way how they approach things in DA. So the Chantry is never fully dissected because for every bad aspect they show they also introduce a positive counterpart. I do not believe they even want to push it into either direction, they just enjoy the controversy.

I can shrug it off too, by just not recruiting. The problem arises if someone wants me to explain why I don't like him. Because I don't want to bring all of this religious stuff into this really. I'd rather keep it to myself.
I kind of liked that one dialogue bit when you recruit Vivienne and that Orlesian challenges the integrity of the Inquisition. I like the Herald line -- "This is a holy calling". Then he laughs about a mage being blessed by Andraste. That's how I roleplay it though..... a pretty serious character when it comes to religion. He takes holiness seriously. And this mage would never have Bull on his team.

Racial, yes. Racial and religion though.... She's a chantry sister and somehow has no reservations about not only having sex but with what they consider enemies to the chantry... I don't buy it.. It was just put in for laughs for 12 year olds.
All these people talking about their "God...." Bah.

Doesn't the Chantry know about the Tal-vashoth? Because Bull is undercover as one and I doubt he told every single person he's really with the Qun
It most like was put in to build up his image, but I don't it's that far-fetch for some in the Chantry to not be bothered by a qunari

Wouldn't the same go for Leliana sleeping with an elf or dwarf in DA:O? Not really enemies but aren't exactly lining up for a chantry sermon.

The horns would be rather suspicious, no? Lol, that was hardly a secret and they'd be at least suspicious. That's how racism works and the DA world isn't a stranger to it.
It wouldn't be as bad if it were just the one off sister, but she had a friend joking about it too and neither gave a damn. It was just in poor taste.

Leliana started off as a bard and was a joke of a chantry sister from the very beginning with her bull**** visions. That airhead is hardly an example of the standard.
The truth of that statement aside, two more points: Leliana was never a Sister. Elves and dwarves are not enemies of the Chantry. Both actually do regularly lineup for a Chantry sermon. It's kind of ironic how matter of factly Poodle says they don't.

To me, he lowers everything around him. Not just the Chantry sisters. His romance scene makes Josie look stupid too (of course, only someone who likes Bull should see that). And makes Cass slightly cool with sexual harassment. First thing out of his mouth he's talking about her breasts. And she doesn't slap him? I'd start **** with any guy with that kind of tact. But noooo..... we can't have people being too serious about this. Everything's gotta be a joke.

I actually liked that about Cass. She's too cool headed to even be bothered by such a joke of an individual. The worst you can do to show disdain for someone isn't to display anger, but to ignore them.

She doesn't do that enough either though. They only wrote her this way because a lot fans always look down on difficult characters (See Vivienne and Sera).

Maybe. I saw it also as she probably liked the attention. Not because she was attracted to bull. She made it clear she wasn't. But because she's not used to it and wouldn't expect it from anyone normally. It's another layer to her character I appreciated seeing. So I didn't mind the flirting, especially as it was one sided. Regardless of Bioware's reasoning.
*Urge to say something rising* but I will hold off because thats what I'm programmed to do..I'll just say that I always liked the Chantry for being a Christian knockoff faction. It's easy to get into the mythos there. Roleplaying wise.
