I liked the Fade in DAO a lot. My major problem was just how I lost all orientation after a while (which, yes, I don't have too much of to begin with ). And I might not want to play it over and over again, but those 3 times I did play through DAO I enjoyed it. I've never played any game more often than 4 times, as far as I can think of now.

Most people say that they hate the Fade in DAO, until they find the ability point exploit. lol

I'm a console player (yeah, I ruin gaming), so I'm forced to play clean (or I'm just a bit too stupid to find the exploits ). But that's okay. I don't like cheating, feels wrong. If I must confess that I just can't find my way home I can do that and cry secretly at night.

In my 2nd DAO playthrough I almost killed Connor in order to avoid doing the fade run, then I was like ahh that is not how I roll so I went to the circle to do the quest hoping that perhaps you could avoid getting sent to it.
So I get to the 2nd/3rd floor and found the sloth demon standing there, we start having a dialogue my thoughts through it all was " please don't send me to the fade, please don't send me to the fade ........God dammit you sent me to the fade" and this was before I knew about the mod.

I think it's easier to do the exploit on consoles because of the controller . I've only ever seen it done. I can remember my best friend complaining to me about the fade (this was before I bought the game)...Anyway, even after all of his complaining he went back to a previous save to complete the fade again, this was after he found out about the exploit XD.  I've wondered ever since, if the game stops registering (sorry I meant to say) attribute points after a certain point. The way the exploit works is that each attribute font has a set number of attribute points. Normally you should just get 1, however if you pause the game and click the action button really fast, it's like clicking the font multiple times. It can add an extra 10 or perhaps more attribute points for each attribute, over top the level 25 cutoff. My friend's Cousland warden ended up with 90 or so strength 70 some dex, even 20 or so magic--for a warrior. XD

I am out of likes, so I must tell you in text form that this post was gorgeous in its entirety.

I was fine with Shepard, but it was also the first "emotional" RPG I played (I'm rather a stealth/action gamer). I had played Skyrim before but, well, Bethesda really isn't exactly known for emotional or lively RPG characters. Also I can accept Shepard to be stoic and reserved because s/he's a soldier, been through some rough times etc. etc. The inquisitor however is just a person without military background or really any experience to speak of. Not as battle-hardened (the closest it gets should be the merch background of an Adaar and that's not military either), not as "grazed" as Shepard. Hauled out of his usual life and thrown into a situation s/he is completely unfamiliar with, all unprepared. All that does not apply to Shepard, who is just a soldier in a war. So in this DAI setting a few more emotions and a wider spectrum of options might have been nice. More expensive though, so I can live with them not doing it.

I would have wished for a lot more irony and sarcasm. But I understand they prefer to keep it more neutral to appeal to a wider audience.

You're right, that probably was the issue. I personally started DA2 with many prejudices (having read many bad reviews). So I kept waiting and waiting for the moment that it would turn to crap... and it just wouldn't.

Honestly, its a great game except for re-used environments. But I'd rather have re-used environments and a good story, then huge maps filled with fetch quest.

Which has nothing to do with their accomplishments as heroes, which was what was being discussed ;) Hawke cannot compare to the Inquisitor, Herald of Andraste, slayer of would be gods and 11 dragons.

Pfft, almost all of the Inquisitors accomplishments are because of the orb.SO technically it's Solas's power and not his.

Yep. The plots kind of stupid, but overall I enjoy playing it much more than I do playing DA:O.

Hawke is among the strongest characters, especially protagonist, DA or any BioWare game has ever seen. The problem is, RPGers don't like strong characters, unless they can be blank slates they can control every little thing about, not realizing the production curve. As my economy professor used to put it, "Guns and Butter(country as ****, but I live in SC so what can you do?)." For every gun you make, there will be less butter that can be made. RPGers prefer the gun to butter, the meat of the issue. Hawke's more butter which I appreciate. I don't need to control everything about my character.

Pretty much this.. I don't want to control every single detail,.or self-insert myself into the game. I want a good character..not some blank state. I just hope for DA4 we get an option to play a character like hawke.

As for COD, I used to play the multiplayer hardcore all the time along with halo. Stopped touching the series though after MW3. Tired of buying the same game. And the new ones just look ridiculous. Ship has sailed.

Plus it's nothing but a pointless cash grab now.

Is anyone laughing at how the witcher fans, are trying to defend a season pass? I lol..so much for CD-project being all good and holy and caring about the Gamers..

Weren't TW fanboys trying to rub it in our faces here by saying that the DLCs were supposed to be free? Before the season pass was announced, of course.

The way the exploit works is that each attribute ...

I'm sorry. I really don't know anything about this (or other) exploits... I cannot follow you at all.

Very much everything you said. I did not mind reusing of environments (but I actually do have a problem with orientation. The places in DA2 were too small to be an issue, but in general reuse is not too bad for me even). And the fetch quests and the friggin' shards were worse. Of course I still collected them all, because there's something severely wrong with my brain.

I really can't say anything about fandoms. This is the only fandom I've ever been in touch with, I don't frequent other gaming forums etc. What is this "your fandom is better than mine" attitude? Why do people need to triumph over others, what's the point? I don't know if the Witcher fans are really so aggressive toward DA fans but I read this here a lot. I just don't see a reason.

I detest the Fade in DAO (and DA2, for that matter). I hate the visual filter that everything has, it's all ever so slightly blurry like you have astigmatism and you're trying to look at something far away (coming from someone who has astigmatism, that s**t p***es me off enough whenever I don't have my glasses on). I liked the idea of the transformations, but not so much the execution. The slow casting animations for each form coupled with each segment having puzzles requiring multiple forms meant that you'd be there a long time if you wanted to collect everything.

And yes, Ben 10 was pretty great. The live-action movie adaptation was terrible garbage, but the cartoons were pretty cool.

The first series was pretty enjoyable. Can't say I care for the newest ones, and I've already moved on anyways.

But it's funny to see ColonelKillabee say "my cousin used to watch it"ike the cartoon already is old enough to be a classic.

That's the whole point of a blank slate.

To be able to roleplay with more freedom. If people decide to self-insert, that's their own doing.

The only other fandom I've been touch with is the Mortal Kombat fandom

Going by the very limited experience I've had with the NRS community as a whole (MK and Injustice), they're not too bad. They bloat every single one of their posts and statements with fighting game jargon, so you need a dictionary to read anything they say, but they're not total wastes of life unlike some other fandoms. The Destiny fandom is the biggest bunch of apologetic kiss-asses you'll ever meet. That game has NO flaws WHATSOEVER according to them, and if you dare say anything against the almighty Bungie, you get blacklisted. The Halo fandom is the biggest bunch of unapologetic d**kheads you'll ever meet. Every game past Halo 2 is complete and utter TRASH according to them, and if you dare say anything positive about Halo 4 or 343 Studios, you get blacklisted.

The WoW community is the closest I'd say to an actual community. They do a lot of social hangout threads that have nothing to do with the game, but people go into them to post about random nonsense, and the blues (our name for the mods, since their posts all have blue text) don't really care (they even regularly join in). A lot of the topics are the same though. It's like every single day someone makes a complaint thread complaining about some feature that was changed or removed and that they want it back. I can't really fault them for making so many threads though, when player-made threads are capped to 26 pages and are auto-locked beyond that.

Honestly this is exactly what the witcher fanbase does... just a lot more hardcore. But, people can't rip on the witcher fanbase for the season pass, not when they get so much free dlc, meanwhile Bioware charged us 15 bucks for a five dollar dlc at best....

As for the comment about this being Solas' power, well unfortunately for Solas, he lost his ball and almost lead to the destruction of everything. If not for us, Corypheus would have won thanks to him, so I can't take the comment that our accomplishments are his very seriously. Especially with how much work across Thedas the Inquisitor does. For the first time ever, we get to actually feel like we did work to build our leadership up. It's just too bad it was meaningless outside of roleplay since none of our resources or anything got challenged and so on.

They think it's the fan's fault that Bioware games don't resemble Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 anymore. lol

Yeah, well, I like Biowares stories, characters, and world. I'm not interested in blank state protagonists, and my play style is just as valid as anyone-else's. I want the choice to be able to play as a protagonist like Hawke. A lot of blank-state fans need to realise: that they are not, the only type of people, who play this game.

Well, "blank slate" aka more like an rpg was how this series started... it's hardly surprising people wish for it to stick to its roots.

And the fans aren't the ones you should be hoping will realize this. In the end, the devs are the ones that decided to take this path.

I'll take some semblance of fun rather than grimdark. The Witcher games are great plot-wise if you've read the books but other than that you have a game with really bad combat. I played the first game using the Aard sign to knock every enemy down so I could one hit kill them instead of bothering with the fighting mechanics.

I love TW a lot more, but I guess it's mostly because the books were one of my first experiences with fantasy genre, probably after LOTR. I was maybe 13-14 and they really left a deep impression. Now I realise that they really aren't that great, but they still hold a special place in my heart and I still love the characters. In a way they are like old friends. So those feelings extended to The Witcher games and why I'm willing to overlook some flaws. But I agree that combat absolutely blows in both games. Extremely clunky and boring in the first and rollin' rollin' from the second game isn't much better.

I don't think DAO was blank slate. There was a lot to work with in the origin stories. I've said this elsewhere, but Mahariel is a more interesting Dalish than the one here, for example. You have a similar story, where you are touched by an ancient elven artifact... but they at least give it personal context. Your character is more than the just his fate or his mission. He or she isn't just "the Warden". He or she is a person with a family and friends. You get interaction with your clan firsthand, you lose your betrothed and/or friend with Tamlen (which also comes to haunt you again later), and in Witch Hunt, you get another interesting angle on the Eluvian. Then later Merrill provides additional context to your story. And in retrospect, it's interesting that Flemeth is the one who saved you at Ostagar (along with that, Flemeth also worked with your clan in the past.. in Stolen Throne. There are some hints that the keeper in the novel is your father).

And that's only the Dalish origin.... the most unpopular one apparently.
