Pity his last cameo involved him being drunk in a dingy canadian bar

See? There you go. If there's no scabbard, nothing can get stuck. Maybe Cass is just lazy.

The blade would require far more maintenance if it was constantly exposed.

It wasn't about ruining, I think. I never spoke about ruining at least. In Exile said that she did not display prejudices in DA2, so I said that she did not display anything, hence DA2 is not a basis to judge her character either way. They could have introduced preferences on her side (though I personally don't wish for them, my post was merely regarding a fact, not an expression of my preference).

You're entirely right that she didn't show much of anything. My point is just that when talking about a hypothetical change in character, people shouldn't start from the assumption that a trait someone's never displayed is part of their character because of what basically amount to stereotypical associations (the religious are prejudiced).

Scabbards are designed to help protect the blade itself from elemental wear (so moisture, muck) and also physical wear (bumping into stuff). A scabbard also helps protect the things and people you bump into, lol. When it comes to storing knives for any period of time, they usually say not to store them in the scabbard, but in a paper sheath. However there is some debate, The Bronze Sword of Goujian (forged in 496 BC) was found sheathed in an airtight wooden scabbard, the blade was untarnished. It's probably better (this is my opinion) if you are not oiling blades, to just keep the blade in the scabbard (a well made one). There is also some added risk if you store your sword without its sheath. Obviously there is an increased risk of harm to yourself and other people (the blade somehow falling on someone, or someone falling on the blade),  there is also an increased risk of damaging the blade, if it is left sitting unsheathed on or against a hard surface. If the sword is on a rack in a display, it's probably best if it is left in its scabbard, that way you can show it off. I've heard tell of some people storing their swords in a locked gun case-- but then you can't show them off,  and it would lead to akward conversations :crying: ...

Is it just me, or is it not amazing that the above sword was discovered? It's like the closest thing to an Excalibur that we will ever see...

Inquisitor: Here, I got you these. *hands her the bouquet*

Cassandra: *gasp, face turns red* I... Is there a special occasion?

Inquisitor: *shifts eyes in a puzzled manner* No. Just... A special gift for a special lady. *takes one of her hands and kisses it*

Cassandra: *red intensifies*

Good question! Maybe the game engine didn't allow scabbards, or they didn't look good once in-game?

I'd guess it's a bit of both

Bioware tends to make their swords look too big, along with making different styles which would require different scabbards

Great swords tend to go without sheaths.

Instead they would have oiled hides or alike wrapped around them when not in use.

I didn't say Cass had to be racist. I expected at least some caution though, especially when you pile on a combo of anti-Chantry traits, like the Qun or iffy blood magic-like specs such as reavers, etc.. With some players, she will become the fool she fears she will be, and a destroyer of "all she holds dear", especially after finding out that the Herald probably isn't really the Herald. And just a lucky bum. And the overall message here is that faith doesn't strengthen a person, but makes them naive. That they'll believe anything. This is worse than "Tetraghast". Which is my original point for bringing any of this up. Varric may personally clash with her, but at least he knows when to be sufficiently creeped out and recoil from some things.

It's not just Qunari thing though. It could apply to Dalish too, which she can be a bit openminded about. For a Chantry character, she's moving away from the very first verse of her religion:

"These truths the Maker has revealed to me:

As there is but one world, one life, one death,

there is but one god and he is our Maker.

They are sinners who have given their love

to false gods"

So...... not an Aussie who goes batshit simply because a girl didn't hook up with him?

That is so unrealistic. An Aussie guy would go and buy a few six-packs of beer, then go home and sulk.

To be honest, I'm not sure why you actually keep posting pics of that ship here when there is a thread dedicated to Tethragast. Is it just for the sake of generating negative reactions from us?

Because there are some really cool pics of cass, but they are also tethraghast. It is the Cassandra thread, and if I see a really nice Cassandra, in a tethraghast pic. Then I see no problem in sharing it. It's not like I do it in every single post I make.

The Christian bible also has some pretty hardcore and demented rules and morals to follow as well, but the peopel who call themselves Christians aren't any less Christian for not abiding by them.

It's not like Cassandra is finding faith in the elven gods or the Old Gods of Tevinter, she still believes the Maker is the one true god in Thedas.

The Torah/Tanakh does, sure. That's not exactly Christian though. It' why the Christians have the "new testament".

As for that, Lewis Black (Jewish) probably described it best. "Back then, my people didn't have air-conditioning".

Feel free to reply, but I'll leave it at that. We know this will get modded down if we get too much into religion. I'm gonna take a break again.

I think she's just pragmatic. You're not going to convert everyone. It embitters some people and drives them away. The Chantry is its own worst enemy.

You know I think the best way to respond to the previous debate is to say I think it takes someone strong to question their own belief system, religious, political, or moral, and yet still be a believer in that system.  As in not getting easily and wishy washily swayed just because someone has a different viewpoint.

Or maybe that person on Tumblr meant to say "ass-sexual". I could see that. I mean, she likes to get an eyefull of that Inquisi-butt, per Bull.

I might not agree with the Qun but Sten has a point:

"People are not simple. They cannot be summarized for easy reference in the manner of: 'The elves are a lithe, pointy eared people who excel at poverty.'"
