Pro-tip: Don't have the Bible debate with Ventus. I don't think I've ever seen it go well.

Out of sheer curiosity, which debate have you seen go well?

I upload them on ff.net. I just like reviews and comments. :P I want to be a writer, so I figure it will help.

Out of curiosity: AO3?

Archive of our own. http://archiveofourown.org

You actually have to request an account though (they'll email you back), or have someone invite you who is already a member.

It's not a huge pain, it's just not instantaneous like most other websites.

ETA: It is worth a try, though, despite their slightly cumbersome sign-up process. I personally like it better than ff.net.

I'm fairly certain I've never debated the Bible on this site.

You have. Quite a few with Entropic in Ghost's, too, if I recall correctly. It started after you talked about "Bible-Thumpers" in Florida.

You'd be surprised. They just get overshadowed by the rest of this mess.

Huh never heard of it.  Just seems most people read but do not review.  But...I am very greedy. lol.  I want reviews but when someone reviews they go: I like it and I am like: Lovely, WHAT did you like, DETAILS man.

In any case, I'm not going to since going into religious discussions aren't allowed. I'll take it to PM.

Humn they are not allowed.. Oh right I forgot, I saw priestly knock down a few of those on the classic ban. Should know better..but eh.

Yeah most don't. However thats why I <3 the kudos system. Well, then leave a AN. And ask your audience a question.

Yeah thats what I did throughout Picking up the Shards of a Broken Galaxy.  Especially in the last chapter.  I have not bothered to have an AN yet in Consquences even though I have been tempted.

Well, at least you have the chance for more reviews by double posting on AO3. :)

And I know what you mean, but I don't review very often either. So many people really hate anything less than positive reviews. After apparently upsetting people a few times, anymore if I can't be 100% nice, I just don't say anything at all.

ETA: Also, lest I forget, the other nice thing about AO3 is you can publicly respond to comments and have a conversation with the commenter on the boards. So if they post something like "Really loved the hot smut between Vivienne and Cullen!!" You can respond with, "What part of that, specifically, worked for you?" :P

It does bug me when I see a fic I've written get more than a thousand visits, but only 10 or so reviews. And 5 of those 10 are just "great work bruh 10/10 would read again!" and just non-helpful. I straight-up say "be critical, tell me what you don't like" in the description, and half the reviews are vague, blind praise.

I like honest criticsms, like people would mention words I misspelled and I am like d'oh.

And Shards was really popular though,  milked like 150 reviews out of the 54 chapters.  Something like that, maybe more.

I actually had a great review for Shards an early chapter of it he did not like a direction I was going with the character and after thinking about it I realized he was right.  Basically ended up creating and changing her entire character arc because of it into something different and adding a lot more interplay between her and SHepard.

I'm guessing from your SN, you're a guy, and in my limited experience, guys tend to take criticism less personally then women do.

(Dont flog me for the stereotype, this is just my experience.)

ETA: plus I can also be a pedant, and it's hard to tell when I'm being overly picky, and when I'm just being helpful. For example, I read a fic where the author said something about putting a stick shift car into park, and I almost posted that I don't think you can do that with manual transmissions, but then I shrugged my shoulders and was like "meh".

Yes.  You would be right. :P And it depends on the mood or just....really anything.  Usually I can take criticism well or debate effectively...but every once in a while...sometimes just need to think and work my way through it.

I am really reflecting on Shards a lot of that fan fiction did change because of the reviews I got.  Like I made Shepard and Vega into a ship in my fic thanks to reviews which I was not intending on originally and...it felt right in the end.  One of the things I love about writing Fan fiction especially the way ff.net handles it:  Instant feed back.  As a writer in any other medium you usually have to wait a long time and cannot mae changes to your story like that on the fly, you usually get the complete package.  But with ff, you post it a chapter of a time so if someone leaves criticism that ends up being valid, you can adapt.

How can you not remember debating with the most religiously serious dude ever? Whatever, it was funny, that's all that matters. Let me see if I can find it(unless it was a part of the deleted group of course).

If you're writing Inky/Cass you're not going to get a crapton of reviews.

This fic, here, which I've read parts of, and is a decent fic, has 100K words and only 50 reviews. https://www.fanficti...e-Truth-in-Lies

I just don't think the fandom is that huge (or it just doesn't read fanfic that much.)

Meh thats my problem I keep on seeming to write most of my fiction, save for Shards, after their peak of popularity.  Shards was written right after ME 3 ended...so....wonder why DA fans don't read much fics?

Oh, they do. It's just all Cullen stuff and Solas stuff.

Take a gander at this: 130 K words, 2000+ reviews. http://archiveofouro...hapters/7112159

And yeah, maybe this author is a bit better than the previous one, but having read them both, the latter isn't better by 2000 comments. But it's a Cullen/Mary Sue fic vs. a Cass/Inky fic.

Consider yourself lucky then. I have never seen a religious supporter and an opposer discuss the Bible in a way that "went well".

Well, then leave a AN. And ask your audience a question.

I think so too.

A literary critic frequents the Solas thread and she suggested to (1) ask for reviews explicitly and (2) ask concrete questions like "I am insecure about the character development. Do you find the emotional change in XYZ believable?" and so on. She says most people find it difficult to review and focusing on particular issues help them channel their ideas and opinions. Also, according to her, it takes the fear from people they might be overly harsh, because they see the author actually wants honest feedback. I know nothing of creative writing, but I'd give it a try.

That's the sad thing about stereotypes; they tend to be confirmed by a big part of the respective group.

I'd usually say you should voice any criticism you have. The writer might decide to disregard it, but that's better than if he had never even known. It's easy to deliberately ignore a comment, so there's nothing to lose by just being honest. But I'm pretty much the last person to ask when it comes to that.

I wouldn't say DA fans don't read fic. From my experiences in the Solas thread, the girls love fanfiction, and smut seems the best thing since sliced bread.

Well, yeah. Anything that isn't weird softcore porn doesn't sell because it's not as provocative and doesn't appeal to the childish fantasies of hormonal girls. If Call of Duty is the attention-grabber for boys and men age 18-35, then weird softcore porn is the female analogue for the same age group.

*Sigh*  Andraste's ****....I mean I actually like writing romance in my stuff.  Almost all of mys tuff has a romantic element either taking a front seat or a very serious back seat.  But usually its just an attraction and rarely is it smutt...for the sake of smut.

I disagree, Yaoi is far more appealing to young hormonal girls.  Ihave sat next to another girl who had a hard rive full of yaoi..

Yaoi only appeals to the annoying 13 year old Tumblr weebs who spend all of their time talking about how Ichigo or Sasuke or whoever bishonen character they're on about would look in skinny jeans.

And guys get into weirder stuff than girls do. 9/10

Maybe it's because I'm a guy and I don't want to be even tangentially associated with people who read that garbage, but I disagree. Slashfic (as a concept) was practically invented for women.
