I was about to yell at you because I thought The Room was a kick-a$$ movie. Putting a bunch of strangers in a room with exits at all 6 faces, and there's only one correct answer, and all the other rooms are filled with the awesomest, most inventive, deadly booby traps? (The cheese slicer trap that cuts you into little bite size bits? Genius!). And the answer to which room is correct can only be solved by taking the cube roots of incredibly long numbers, and punching those into a Cartesian coordinate system that will lead them to the exit?

That is Cube you are thinking of. Cuuuuuuuuuuube. Second-greatest Canadian film ever after Wolfcop.

That was a great movie.

Then I realized you were referring to a different movie entirely.

Sorry. Carry on.

Rofl  Cool story bro, no sarcasm ;)

:D. Whoops. I thought that movie was also called the Room. But you're right, it's The Cube. Duh.

It's a great movie if you're in the mood for a sci-fi thriller with a touch of horror. My description was actually fairly accurate.

And I skimmed through your fic. I know nothing about Alan Wake, but you write pretty dang well. I did some Justice League fics at the same age and yours are miles ahead of where I was. (If my praise means much to you.)

Well, you seem to like it more than I do.

But then everybody likes my pieces more than I do. I look at mine and see all the flaws, but everyone else sees things they like. That's the second big reason I never finish any of the fics I start. *shrug*

Maybe I have some repressed insecurities or something.

Though you really should finish them. Might help you like them better yourself.

From what I've gathered, nearly every writer has repressed insecurities. :D.

And I'm not the best one to ask, but maybe if you're having trouble completing long fics, start out with some one-shots of a pairing you like?

Then work your way up to a few shorter multi-chapter fics. Like 2-5 chapters or so?

Then you can try to write the longer fics, after you've hd a few completed projects under your belt?

Maybe an accomplished author can chime in, but that's just my $.02.

I'd go so far as to say nearly every artist has tendencies towards insecurity, whether it's prose, poetry, or painting, and anything else.

It's just that the insecurities are so often muddled up in the tendency toward immense ego, that it can be hard to tell sometimes.  :P

On the other hand, I do know some very humble artists and writers...but they're harder to notice than the cocky ones are. Perhaps because they're usually quieter?

Doesn't the genius of their work speak for itself? *genuinely curious*

Well...I think it might depend on the specific work in question, and the perception of their own "genius."

The only professionals I've met have either been teachers, or someone I encountered so briefly that I don't think I had much of an opportunity to know them at all. Most of the time I've spent with artists and writers have been with other novices and students.

Of course, I still considered some of them to be genius, or at least potentially genius.  :P

Come to think of it...both times I've taken a writing class with an older person in the group, they came off as extremely smug and conceited to me. I think humility is a discipline that takes practice. I know it takes practice for me. I can be extremely inclined toward vanity. Lol.

I guess I'm off to a good start then, because I'm terrible at pride and ego.

But then I think I have a funny way of rationalizing it. I reason it like a numbers game. If there are 7 billion people in the world, what are the odds that I really have some kind of stand-out idea that sets myself apart from the rest? Nothing I do or say really makes me special compared to anyone else, so pretending that I do have some kind of special talent just makes me sound like an arrogant d***.

Or so I see it. But I'm also terrible at taking compliments (online more so than in person, since online you can never tell if the praise is genuine or veiled sarcasm). Probably some inferiority complex at play. Someone says they like something I do, I just kind of wave it off and say to myself "ehh, whatever, it seems like crap to me".

Because this probably comes off, more often than not, like you don't hold other people's opinions in high enough esteem to accept their compliments.

No, I'm saying that Leonardo DiCaprio dies even though the piece of wood that she floats away on can hold at least 2 people.

What? Did you really expect her to fall in love with low born scum? Please, so naive. He was used and thrown away.

Come now, that's a bit harsh.

Honestly, Ventus it sounds like you're just going through that awkward insecure age(where you've left school, but are still unsure of your place in the world). Things get easier,  I promise.

That always bugged me as well.

I like the idea that Titanic is related to Inception. At the end of Titanic, Leo sinks into the sea then in the opening of Inception he wakes up on a beach.

I identify as a 14-year-old-cheerleader-kin, so this triggers me.
