But it happened in the past already, both in DAO and ME2. What was so different to cause that chaos?
I'm personally not a fan of Changing anything about a cHaracter, be if gender, race or sexual orientation, but I honestly couldn't care less of what people would do in their own game. It's not canon anyway (Though it was hilarious that some people thought Bioware should've a doubted in the keep what the mod community did).

I know that. I was wondering what caused this, since it apparently didn't happen in the past. And from what I read there's a Cullen bi-mod as well.

There's a mod for Cullen, Dorian, Solas from what I'm aware of, funny enough people raged over the Dorian one

I don't like the principle behind these abovementioned mods, the race changing mods especially, why can't gamers simply accept the character for what they are, as the writers intended them? I think Dorian is a great character, he reminds me of one of my favorite writers, Oscar Wilde. I would not want Dorian, or any character changed. Some fans just seem to be obsessed with 'complete control' over certain characters... It's kind of creepy.
