I could go on about harmful stereotypes and institutionalised sexism, plus the sexism of the entire entertainment industry, but I suspect that would take all night and probably get me kicked off the forums. :)

Cassandra is magnificent, and I'll not hear otherwise!

Well,I think it's pretty sad that people can't see the beauty beyond their conventional standards...

Aveline would win, to be honest.

Cassandra's a templar and chantry zealot. She focuses on anti-magy stuff and probably prays often.

Aveline is pretty much pureblood warrior and all she does is train/fight.

Cassandra isn't a Templar and is just as much as warrior as.Aveline

And how exactly does Cassandra being religious come as a disadvantage? She's a warrior dedicated to dealing with mages and demons, not a nun that spends all her days praying in some cloister. And Aveline is a captain of the guard. If you honestly think that all she does is fight, then you've never been in charge of anything in your life. She spends way more time organizing and running the city guard than she does cracking heads.

I don't get the whole "Aveline vs Cassandra" pissing match. Both are great characters, with both different personalities, strengths and weaknesses.

It doesn't matter one bit who would win in an arm wrestling match. Both are excellent warriors and Cassandra beign a bit of a religious type doesn't make her any less strong.

Yeah, but religiosity is often construed as a sign of weakness by a predominantly-atheist geek culture, even in the context of settings where aspects of said religion are actually true, widely-believed or at least practical (being a Templar is probably pretty useful given the existence of magic, though Cass isn't a Templar anyway). I'm sure you remember all the 'I don't want my character to believe in the Maker' schtick, even if characters who didn't believe (as opposed to characters who were simply less devoted) would be relatively uncommon in the setting unless they had specific reasons not to.

Lots of competitive people make everything resolve around leatherboards: they need to be able to rank everything and everyone.

The lore-geek in me gets really bothered when people say Cass is a Templer.  She may end up having the Templer (or Templer-style) spec, but she's a Seeker and that's totally different.  You might as well say that Leliana is a Templer given her affliation to the Seekers!

(for the record, I don't think Cass with have the Templer spec.  It does kind of make sense given her views on mages, but she strikes me as being a Champion.  Blackwall is more likely to be the Templer just to continue the tradition of having a Grey Warden with Templer training as a companion.)

Society dictates to those sheep what they should find attractive, so naturally they'll bleat and bleat when a man or woman deviates from their strict guidelines.

Blackwall entire character profile reads like the Champion spec's description though.

Saying that I don't think Cassandra has the Templar spec either. Well more like I hope not, she was never referenced as being a Templar and giving her that spec looks somewhat lazy. Seekers and Templars receive different training going by the lore, they should have different skill sets. Also, she could easily be a Reaver with her background of dragon hunting and her family using dragon blood as food condiment. Just like she could easily be a champion because of her personality and the dev seems to be pushing her as the tank in the marketing (only warrior with a shield) and the champion is a tanking spec.

In other word, I'm really confused what kind of spec she will end up having.

There's a chance that they might have unique specs again.  Only Carver (and Bethany, probably) got Hawke's specs in DA2, after all.  I know Iron Bull was shown to have the Reaver spec but that could be a placeholder (maybe the devs weren't ready to show a companion spec tree during the demo).  If the companions do have their own specs then Cass could even end up with a Championish spec.

I agree. The history of the seekers and templars are linked and some may interpret some of the duties of a seeker similar to a templar. But I see seekers in a much higher ranking/hierachy than templars as they only get directly involved with the templars when there is a need for it. So to refer  Cassandra to a templar would be misraking her imo, even it is just a spec. She is above that, and her actions so far seem to be above any templar I have seen. I am sure BioWare would understand that.

Well, the devs said that there are 21 talent trees in the game, that's 4 general (the warrior's were shown in the offscreen demo) plus 3 specs per class. They might've not mentioned the companions specs, but I woudn't personally put much hope in this possibility.

They also said there was more talents than in DA2 and everything point to there being a lot less actually.

It all depends if the dev were talking about things the player can use to customize his Inquisitor or in general. Going by the quote, it was about customization: "Four playable races, two genders, and a choice of voices, as well as our unique, brand new facial customization system that offers over a billion possible faces...21 different combat skill trees".

7 for each class? Nice. Does that include Specs, though? : /

It'd possible they were referring to the Inquisitor specifically yes.
I don't know about less talents, I saw all the shots of the talent trees in the demo, and all of them (except Reaver, which has ten points) has more points then the trees in DA2.

It seems so. At least, in the demo all characters had 4 general trees plus the spec.

Off-topic

DA2 had 27 trees at 10 points each (include spec) and 7 custom spec at 8 points each (excluding Tallis/including Sebastian). That's 326 talents/upgrades total with 270 usable by Hawke.

DAI with 21 trees and the number we saw in the demo (spirit and most of the warrior's trees are at 13 except 2handed that is at 15, double dagger is at 14 and the spec is at 10 points) result in about ~258 talents usable by the Inquisitor. Averaged at 14 points the general trees, but 13 seems the most common, so could be lower. All spec estimated at 10 points. Of course, it's possible that the demo trees were "fake" for whatever reasons.

On Topic

Back to Cassandra. Anyway, even if she's stuck with the crappy templar's spec (I never found it interesting in the previous games), I hope we get to learn about some Seeker's techniques, even if we can't see them in action.

Ok, her eyes and eyebrows remind me of Olivia Wilde.
