It feels a bit off, but I realize that players already complain about the religious types being preachy.

I don't see anything wrong with crafting a character who opposes the Chantry or doesn't believe in the existence of the Maker. Although Tevinter was the first exalted state, there are a number of magisters in the Imperium who are devotees of the old religion (e.g. Aurelian Titus). Not surpising, really, since the aristocracy was forcibly converted to Andrastianism (c.f. World of Thedas):
Honestly, I don't either, though I assume the forced conversion was a long time ago, and Tevinter is not exactly coded as somewhere one should be taking faith pointers from. DA is full of anachronisms, though, so I don't really begrudge the setting some atheism. It was less about whether it makes sense within the setting and more about the strong desire by the player base to do so, which I think has less to do with whether it makes sense within the setting and more to do with a general dislike of religious people within real-world geek culture at large (and specific negative experiences with religion on the part of the individual).

I've noticed that the religious types in Dragon Age are very mild when it comes to interacting with people of other faiths. Leliana doesn't seem to care about your religion. Seb talks about how all gods are the Maker.

Well, Petrice wasn't mild. Though she's the exception that proves the rule, given that she's portrayed as a crazy extremist

The Dwarves aren't irreligious. They believe in the Stone, the Ancestors, and the Paragons. And the only elves who wouldn't really be Andrastian are the Dalish.
It's probably because the Dwarves don't do organized religion in a way that pings with people, but I'm interested in how the Stone factors into the setting and lore. I suspect we're going to get more of that than most people have anticipated when we get into the game.

I sure hope so. It was interesting to see all the dwarven ghosts in the Dead Trenches, and especially Kal'Hirol.

I'm probably the only one who thinks 'the Stone sleeps beneath Orlais' is connected to Red Lyrium, aren't I?
I really hope that they eventually open up that Word of God setting design wiki they've mentioned a few times. Even if it's in fifteen/twenty years, I'd love to know the metaphysial history of Thedas.
I doubt we could get all of it out in regular games in the next twenty-thirty years, but who knows? Maybe some Bioware employee will go down in a blaze of glory and leak the setting documents before then?
Uh, not that I would ever encourage such a thing, though. ![]()

People are arbitrary and have their own issues and prejudices. That naturally spills out onto the internet.
I've noticed most of those same people who complain about Leliana and Seb don't call Merrill preachy to you when she tells you the story of the Dread Wolf during the romance arc with her.
Not that I want it gone. I loved that added touch to it. It made you feel like you were romancing someone with their own culture and beliefs. I'd be fine with Cassandra mentioning something from the Chant and explaining what it means to her. It'd give us some good insight into her character.

Hmm... I never thought about that being a reference to Red Lyrium. But, now that you mention it, it makes sense.

NO. YOU ARE NOT ALONE DEAN. I'm thinking that "the Stone" might be the original source of Red lyrium that's starting to crop up throughout the world.
And I too would love to see the design wiki as well.

No, no, you need to do it like this if you're going to be ALL CAPS ABOUT IT.

But more importantly, I think the origin of lyrium is going to be vital to understanding not only the Maker, but also the Fade, the Elves, and the pre-historic past of magic.

Varric character profile is out...
We get some stuff about Cassandra in it. Looks like it's official now that she is a Hawke fan and that Varric is still bitter about the book-in-the-face thing.

He brought that on himself. He was a smarta** when they first started.

I would be too if a bunch of armored douches literally dragged me from the Hanged Man to Hawke's estate.

Yes, pissing off the armed soldiers when you have nothing to defend yourself with seems the logical thing to do. ![]()

Anyway, i wonder if Cassandra will force Varric to join.

If everyone in your party represents some type of group, I think Varric could be a voice for the people, so I could see him joining up at most to help everyone.

I was looking for a screen of a dwarf in Templar armor to along with it, but I couldn't find one.

I feel as Varric will join willingly because in the end, he has a good heart as seen in DA2 and in the Pax Prime demo when Crestwood was destroyed. He doesn't want the world to end so he sees the Inquisition as the best thing to save Thedas. Also, I am interested in seeing how Cassandra and Varric interact because of Varric's bitterness towards Cassandra from DA2.
