I don't think Varric will remain bitter towards Cassandra the entire game, just for the beginning of it.  I think he'll end up forgiving Cassandra eventually unless she does something else that keeps him bitter towards her.

But isn't that why Sera joined?

It's a rogue thing... they all kinda act the same at some point of their personalities.

It always gets old but never gets bad.

Varric's rather more bourgeois than Sera, I think

Has this already appeared in this thread: it would be very amusing if she started courting the Inquisitor the same way Aveline tried courting Donnic, it would be amusing to see Cassandra passing awkward gifts to companions or other npc's to give to the Inquisitor and Varric sitting in a chair watching this awkward scene unfold.

Rival Varric tells you it's the Nevarran way of proposing. Inquisitor runs like hell.

Friend Varric tells you to hit that. Inquisitor hits that.

Hey, that's like, totally typical PC behavior.

I've yet to see a BioWare game where PCs aren't given bizarre special privileges just because they're a PC.

* Shoots up a bar, yells at Council - Promoted to SPECTRE.
* Punches reporter on live TV - Praised by military top brass.

To be honest that reporter is pretty hated.

Heck, Dragon Age 2 might as well have been subtitled 'Corruption Is Cool (When It's In Your Favor).'

I think Aveline is my favorite companion of DA2 not so much because of how she is as a friend, but what she is openly and willingly complicit in as a rival. I laugh whenever anyone calls her incorruptible.

Going by the character profiles of all three of them, it seems like Cassandra and Iron Bull end up bonding over their joy of fighting/killing stuff and their point of views on things. Considering that IB's old job and Cassandra's old job was similar (secret services/internal affairs dealing with threats to their respective religion) they probably have things in commons. Varric not getting along either of them is probably just a "bonus".

quick question, and I am sorry if it is a bit off topic, but I am trying to figure out when (the year) DA:I takes place. I finally looked through the entire timeline and noticed the last entries are at 9:40 which involves the circle being disbanded and Cassandra arriving at Kirkwall (can't believe that was 3 year later after the end of DA2!). So do we know when DA:I officially starts from the time we see Cassandra and Leliana at the end of DA2? Given what Cassandra says at the end to Leliana, I don't think it is too long of a gap (maybe a year at the most??).

I get the impression that Varric's part in the Inquisition is similar to that of Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit. He really doesn't want to be there, but you dragged him from his home and waved a sword in front of his face, so he might as well come along and see what all the fuss is about.

If his relationship with Cassandra is anything like his rivalry path in DA2 there is going to be some fun interaction between the two of them, especially since Cass has a hidden witty/sarcastic side.

Bioware said I believe DAI starts as long as it would take Cassandra, Leliana, and Varric to get to the frostback Mountains from Kirkwall, so a few months.

I get the feeling Cassandra and Varric will have a Aveline/Isabela like relationship i.e. hating each others guts at first, then growing a grudging respect for one another, and then becoming friends near the end.

I would be a bit sad if they never reconciled their differences, as I enjoy both of them as characters thus far. But then again, the Alistair/Morrigan relationship in DAO is one of my favorites, and that consisted of nothing but bitter hatred, which made for some hilarious dialogues.

Honestly I doubt Cass will ever make any effort to get someone to like her, she is a no-nonsense kinda gal, what you see is what you get. Varric loves telling stories, Cass would probably (and indeed has) correct him when he starts 'exaggerating'. Varric is rather care-free (most of the time), Cass is hard-wired to 100% go-get-it-done-!. Varric already doesn't like her since she arrested him and threw a book (a big fat, hard cover book) at his face and almost stabbed him. I don't think Varric will ever (even initially) hate her, like Izzy and Aveline, but I doubt he will ever do anything more than respect her abilities. He and Cass would probably be a much toned down version of Izzy/Aveline, with Cass suggesting the straightforward path, and Varric commenting on her lack of subtlety, or with Varric lieing his ass off and Cass calling him on it.

Tweets from Mark Darrah and Mike Laidlaw. You might be able to find them in the Twitter thread, it was last april I believe. Tweets are a pain to search for on twitter.

So I was thinking; wouldn't a scene like this between Cass and the Inquisitor would be neat? While everyone else is preparing for a siege - the Inquisitor and Cass are playing violin and cello :P

I don't know if I see Varric and Cass hating each other.  At the end of DA2, they seem to have reached an understanding.  And we know that they traveled together for a while after that.  I think it's more likely that they butt heads over their different ways of handling things and looking at the world (the early demo when Varric is devastated over the inquisitor sacrificing a village, while Cass takes more of a "you can't save everyone" attitude), but generally respect their differences.  There might be a lot of trolling on Varric's end, because Cass seems like she will be very easy to troll.

She looks easy to troll and she anger easily, but she is sharp of mind, likes to fight and got a hidden witty/snarky side. Trolling her probably means getting trolled back. In fact, she trolls Vivienne in the PAX demo of last fall or they were both trolling Varric, hard to say...

Very true.  Maybe the trolling goes both ways.  It's just that she seems so serious all the time, you know Varric would not be able to resist trying to make her crack a smile sometimes.

I pretty much see Cassandra stoicly trying to resist reacting to the others trolling her, teasing her, antagonizing her, etc. but I can see her losing her cool to it every now and then and then her getting them back on it. lol
