I'm not surprised , before she left Jennifer Hepler had a Cassandra picture as her twitter avatar.

And her resume said she was writing a romance. It was pretty obvious Cassandra was going to end up as a LI.

But I also wonder how the writers deal with writing other people characters (Cole/Cass) ...It must be a bit strange.

Well, I have seen Sheryl Chee with a Cassandra avatar on Twitter as well, so at first I thought she wrote Cass. Dem writers wanting to confuse us all! :P

Also regarding the romance; was it a romance for DA 2? Or DA: I?

A romance for DA II?

No , a romance for Inquisition .

The DA team was working on DAI when Jennifer Hepler left.

hmm that's interesting. Does anyone know who were other major characters that Jennifer and Gaider wrote in previous games? Just trying to get a better sense of their style and how this will reflect on Cassandra.

I think the wiki is pretty accurate so...

Jennifer Hepler

David Gaider

Lots of people for both. I'm not sure about style though. I couldn't tell you by playing DA2 that Bethany, Leandra, Gamlen, Elthina, Sebastian and Anders are all written by the same person. Or that the person who wrote those characters is also responsible for that creepy song in the quest Anvil of the Void in DAO.

Now that you mention it, yeah I remember that.

Maybe that's why he took over the writting since he wrote her originally?

Thanks Jib for the wiki, I didn't even know the DA wiki had stuff on the BioWAre staff. (der from my part)

Proves that people put too much "hype" on writers.

I think people are mosuderstanding wha Gaider meant. He said Jennifer was writing Cass for DAI, not DA2.
Basically, it went like this: DA2 Gaider, DAI first Hepler and then Gaider.

It isn't all that strange to me, but maybe that's just because I have some experience at writing fan fiction... The trick is to find the character's 'voice' and go from there. I'd think that in a professional situation the writers would help each other out, which would make it easier to find and sustain that 'voice'.

Proves that people put too much "hype" on writers.

What do you mean by that? That a writer can write half a dozen different characters and have them all be so different that you can't tell the same person wrote them is a testament to their skill, IMHO.

In fact, that's really the whole point of writing anyway. Who would read a story where all the characters were carbon copies of each other? I think it'd be a bit boring.

A writer who can make characters distinct and real deserves all the hype, IMHO.

I think it's a testament to how many excellent writers work on these products that they are all so well written and fit into the universe so well that we can hardly tell who wrote which character, personally. I'm not sure how big a deal it is which of the writers wrote which of the characters, to me, because the whole team seems to write so well that I can't really get hyped over one writer in particular, I guess.

I thought the Seekers were the Inquisition?

Once upon a time, there was an organization called the Inquisition. It was independent and powerful, and this pissed people off. Eventually it was cannibalized by the Chantry, which split it into the Seekers and Templars. While those two orders owe their existence to the Inquisition and fulfill some of their duties, they're not the same.

Gaider confirmed in the Dorian thread thaT Cassandra was originally Jennifer Hepler's character, which he took over after she left.

That's... interesting. For some reason, I thought David wrote Cassandra in DA II.

He did. He meant for Dragon Age: Inquisition, Cassandra was originally being written by Jennifer Helper.

Jennifer did the Anvil of the Void quest in DA:O and wrote Sebastian and Anders for DA II.

David has done a ton of work for BioWare. Off the top of my head, he wrote all the romancable companions for BG 2; Carth and Bastila for SWTOR; Aribeth and Aren Gend for NWN; Morrigan, Zevran, and Alistar for DA II; and Fenris for DA II. He's done a lot of the quests and minor characters as well.

Hardly.

I find it bizarre that people talk about game writers as though they're interchangeable cogs, and that this is a positive in their mind. No one would ever say 'Oh, you can just replace Sanderson with GRRM and no one will know the difference.' Their fans would skin you alive.

Only in game writing would the idea that a writer has a unique voice, viewpoint, or take on characters be seen as a bad thing.
