Oh yeah, if we can choose then Sera is the obvious one.
The way she dresses just screams the kind of cool headed decision making you want in a Number Two.

Why Sera is the obvious one?
When the Inquisitor mysteriously vanishes at the end of the game, I want to make sure that the right person is left in charge of the massive and powerful organization I've created.

I was more interested to know why do you think Sera is the right person.

The Inquisition will need a leader who's responsible and level-headed.
Who am I going to give it to? Vivienne? She'll spend all the money on dresses!

Sera always knows where to get a discount on her clothes. Mostly of the five-fingered variety.

Iron Bull will spend all the money on hookers, food and drinks.
Blackwall will re-purpose the Inquisition to fight all that his evil (aka deepstalkers) or turn it into a furniture manufacturer.
Dorian will bring the entire Inquisition to invade Tevinter and get ride of the Magisters so he can change the rules.
Varric will spend all the money on blank pages, ink, cozy housing furniture and houses.
Solas will disband the Inquisition so he can return to traveling among ruins.
Cole won't be remembered by the rest of the Inquisition.
Sera will use the Inquisition force to host parties everywhere so she can empty nobles' pockets.

Just to put in my two cents on why we might be the leader instead of some grunt with special hands.
To put it simply: How else is Bioware going to explain the multitude of different characters with different backgrounds and views running around with a bunch of "former" Chantry folk? A Dalish elf, or an apostate mage isn't going to cooperate with Cassandra and her people unless they're given some pretty good reasons and incentives.
Also, as someone has pointed out before me, the PC is probably a bit of a compromise. A neutral party that everyone can agree to follow. Be they elf or dwarf or human. Orleasian or Fereldan.
Just my take on it though.

My only thought is that you manage to get the Divine's blessing. Perhaps she doesn't die and your first quest is to rescue her from the Fade?
Though that still doesn't work as Justina would probably want Cassandra to lead a new Inqusition: she's already proven herself, probably would help you rescue the Divine, and would bend to the Divine's will.
I don't know. I guess it will just be a handwave. I am sure after the first 10 hours, I'll stop thinking about it.

Plus with arcane, military, intelligence, and political advisors the Inquisitor doesn't need to know how to manage every aspect of the Inquisition.

I just can't see beyond the divine being dead and that vacuum being how the inquisitor gets to climb to top of pile. I can't see them forcing the player to serve the divine.

If the Divine grants the Inquisitor her blessing then dies, it doesn't seem like it'd be too much of an imposition.
Less so than working for TIM. Or even the Council in ME1. Or allying with Eamon in DA:O.

That really makes me wonder how the prologue of the game is going to play out. I have a hard time imagining it will begin with us crawling out of the fade without any kind of lead up before that.

Hopefully it's similar to Ostagar and less like "Lothering" from DA2.

I'm fairly certain they said at one point there would be some gameplay before we become the Inquisitor.
And hopefully by that they don't mean we'll be taking a smoke break outside the peace conference and then a few minutes later everybody is dead.

We're not the Inquisitor during the Fade tear even, though, or during our run in with the initial group that eventually forms our party. So I think it's more like how at Ostagar we weren't technically a GW at first.

I was thinking we start at someplace doing things, get tossed into the Fade, fight a bunch of stuff in the Fade (combat tutorial), get spit out of Fade and land on Cassandra.
That would be compelling!
Landing on Cassandra now that is compelling.
