Call me shallow all you want, but I'm incredibly pissed at Bioware making Cassandra male-only.

The other two female options for female inquisitors both seem incredibly lackluster and I don't really have an interest in either of them.

Damn it...and I was really looking forward to the game too.

You can call me stupid or pathetic or whatever for throwing in the towel over something minor like this, but we all have our reasons for why we play. In an RPG, my romances are important to me.

Screw it. I don't care anymore.

What a idiotic move on Bioware's part.

Nope. None, though I sorely wish there had been.

:(

I thought telling Alistair my Warden licked a lampost in winter was pretty serious M/M flirting, especially when we then had a chat about his virgnity.

What?

Well, I can't speak for the poster you're replying to, but:

Cassandra seems more like what gay/bi woman are attracted to. I'm a bisexual woman, and I'm insanely attracted to her. I wish I could explain why, but I can't. She's just kind of... strong? And confident, and attractive, and awesome. There's something really appealing about a woman who go around wearing plate armor, slaying dragons, and changing the course of history. She's just so powerful.

Sera is the opposite.  She seems like the sort of person that a straight man would be attracted to. Again, I wish I could explain why. She seems more feminine. She reminds me a bit of Tali and Liara.

I am sorry you feel that way. I might suggest at least trying to romance Sera or Josephine before writing them off as boring.

Lol, you're telling me. I thought it was too, though that was before I realized that he wasn't romanceable.

Indeed, Allan Schumacher speaks quite highly of Josephine's romance. ^_^

So, Bioware screwed the pooch with Cassandra, I take it?

Someone had to be straight.

Someone had to be straight.

Strictly speaking, incorrect. But if someone did, Josephine would have been a better parallel to Cullen's role.

I'm sorry you are disappointed, but besides the snippets that we have heard about these characters, we really don't know them. For all  you know, the other options could be a better romance. Without playing the game, we really don't know.

I would advise you to let go of your preconceptions about the other characters (and even Cassandra because we really don't know all that much), and maybe give Maria's suggestion a try--at least give the other options a shot. You might be pleasantly surprised.

Lets not do this again people! I think is fair that each orientation has at least 1 companion romance so let not turn this into a pissing match.

Adviser. New character without previously established fanbase. Better choice.

The other romances aren't symmetrical, there's no reason why it had to be.

There is no correlation between a fictional character's sexual orientation and the size/composition of that character's fanbase.

Cassandra's romance was probably designed and started before the size and makeup of Cassandra's fanbase was readily apparent.

That said, I do agree that Josephine would have been as straight than Cassandra, imo, but I don't think Bioware went, "meh, who cares about Cassandra's F/F fans."

Well, that's works fine enough in support of an argument that Josephine would have been a better choice to restrict the romance possibilities of... but I really don't think "without previously established fanbase" speaks to your assertion that Josephine would have been a better parallel to Cullen. Because, I mean, seriously.

I am biased, but I suspect that BioWare probably anticipated that having an aggressive warrior woman who less traditionally feminine than the rest of the female companions would attract other women.

However, they wanted to write her as a straight woman. BioWare doesn't base characters on the presumed demographics of their fans.

David himself expressed sympathy to her queer fanbase, so I completely agree.

It's just what they felt was right for the character.

It always sucks when people don't get what they want, but that's just the way it goes. I'm seeing more graceful disappointment than aggressive Bioware slamming because of this, so that's nice.  ^_^

Josephine isn't a companion though. There would need to be a straight female LI among the companions as well. Since there are only three female companions in total, and Sera is a lesbian, that leaves either Cassandra or Vivienne.

And at this point its possible that Vivienne might not be a LI at all.

I understand some people being disappointed if they are fans of the character and their Inquisitor isn't going to be her type, but bashing the dev team over it is taking that a bit too far.

I don't think it's that there "needs to be" a specific orientation among the companions.

Cullen is straight because way back in DA:O, Sheryl wrote him as a straight man. Cassandra is straight because in DA II, David or Jennifer wrote her as a straight woman. Sera is gay because Luke wanted to write her that way.

There appears to be no straight male companion among the LIs. There's absolutely no need for a straight female companion.

I thought people hated the whole "Shove both NPC romances into one orientation" thing after ME3 did that?

Wow there seems to be a riot going on. Folks, we have other romanceable character for Female Inquisitor. If not, there is this thing called Fan Fiction. Or Friend Fiction.  :P

Personally, I no longer care about Cassandra's sexual orientation. Reason ? Two words. Josephine Montilyet. Nuff' said.

Anyway, given the info we got on companions and specialization, does this mean Cassandra will have a Seeker skill tree ? If so, I am curious to see how it differs from the Templar skill trees. Seekers are rumored to be deadly combatants, especially against mages and can resist blood magic. Plus, she had that armor break ability which we have not seen in the Sword and Shield tree.

Cassandra is still one of my favorite companions though. I will either be playing as a mage Inquisitor and I would need a tank. Cassandra is a very good one. In fact, I think she is the only warrior follower with a Sword and Shield proficiency as default (Blackwall and Iron Bull are two-handed) so she will be the best tank.

Only if the NPC romances have gimped amounts of content, which doesn't seem to be the case in DAI.
