There appears to be no straight male companion among the LIs. There's absolutely no need for a straight female companion.
When did they ever say they were going that route, though? ![]()

It's fair to say, rather, that there's as much need as there would be for a straight male companion, given we don't know whether the latter exists or not.
Wow there seems to be a riot going on. Folks, we have other romanceable character for Female Inquisitor. If not, there is this thing called Fan Fiction. Or Friend Fiction.
Personally, I no longer care about Cassandra's sexual orientation. Reason ? Two words. Josephine Montilyet. Nuff' said.
Anyway, given the info we got on companions and specialization, does this mean Cassandra will have a Seeker skill tree ? If so, I am curious to see how it differs from the Templar skill trees. Seekers are rumored to be deadly combatants, especially against mages and can resist blood magic. Plus, she had that armor break ability which we have not seen in the Sword and Shield tree.
Cassandra is still one of my favorite companions though. I will either be playing as a mage Inquisitor and I would need a tank. Cassandra is a very good one. In fact, I think she is the only warrior follower with a Sword and Shield proficiency as default (Blackwall and Iron Bull are two-handed) so she will be the best tank.
I can see her having a Seeker or maybe a Dragonhunter specialization due to her being a Pentaghast.

They didn't. They erred.

Maybe a combo ![]()
Lol, you're telling me. I thought it was too, though that was before I realized that he wasn't romanceable.
My Warden was all "rawr, I'll teach you all you need to know ;)" and then it went nowhere, and he was all
and had to feel better by getting a back-rub from Zev (I debated calling it a "back" rub, but, you know, I'm well-brought up).
I think they went less in the direction of wanting strict across the board equal options so much as writing what they wanted to write within the confines of a time and money budget.
On Cassandra and her sexual orientation... anyone else think it might be somewhat related to how involved she was in a religious institution? I mean, look at Alistair, he was a young brother in the Templar Order... straight. Cassandra is much the same with being a member of the Seekers.

No.

Leliana.

Given how long Cassandra as a character has been around, she was likely meant to be straight the whole time (unless Jennifer Hepler had other ideas when she was originally writing the character). But this is just speculation on my part.

Leliana.
Good point... Though she wasn't brought up in one as a young kid. I mean, she was a damn spy with a "by any means" necessary type. IDK, that was a post from me without much thought admittedly.

That's also possible. That reminds me of Gaider's comments on Anders that allow Ander's orientation was never explicitely said in Awakening, he still concepted Anders as being bisexual even before he had a romance.
Cassandra, Alistiar, Cullen, and Sebastian were all straight and all involved in the Chantry. Leliana is the only exception, but her views were always unorthodox and she was only a lay sister for a handful of years.
We've been told that the Chantry doesn't care who you sleep with, though only women are priests because they're symbolically married to the Maker (who I guess isn't bisexual, or he'd be fine with the dude priests.)
This is kinda where I was leaning but who knows. Her being from a royal family might be part of it too... extend the bloodline and all that.
Sometime after the game is released, someone should tweet Hepler and ask her how different her storyline for Cassandra would have been from Gaider's.

What her family expects of her is separate from what genders she is or isn't attracted to.
Who overwrites scripture with her personal headcanon.
"And then the Maker said, 'Nah, I'll say with my children," and watched over them, especially people who might have made a handful of mistakes in their past becauseI need someone to love mehe loves us all."
Considering the number of sisters and mothers that seem to say 'Maker watch over us' and forms of it, she hardly seems the only one. ![]()

So far, but its my understanding that not all of them are confirmed yet. Aren't there eight romance options in the game? So far for confirmed LIs we have Sera, Josephine, Cassandra, Cullen, the Iron Bull, and Dorian. Unless I'm missing anyone that's six LIs, leaving two that are still unannounced. I would assume of the other two, one would be male and one would be female.

Why not? Unless you're advocating a model where all the LIs are bisexual.
But once it was confirmed that the devs weren't going that route, it was only fair that some of the LIs should be straight as well as homosexual. Straight & gay players should have an equal amount of options IMO.
Adviser. New character without previously established fanbase. Better choice.
This would actually create a bias towards returning characters being bisexual simply because by nature of their existence, they would build up some level of following amongst all types of people while a person doesn't.
The thing is, there's going to be some that would actually prefer to have had Josephine instead of Cassandra - they just didn't realize it yet. So in my eyes it mostly comes out as a wash.
I don't think Alistair really counts in the same way the others do as being involved in the Chantry. He was in the templars because he was a bastard with no other options and he was very happy to get out when Duncan took him for the wardens. Alistair doesn't care much for the templars or the Chantry when you talk to him about them.
Yeah its funny how that works. A lot of ladies wanted Cassandra and a lot of guys wanted Sera. But it was inevitable since Josephine was confirmed to be Bi.
Funny how that worked out.
I don't think it's that there "needs to be" a specific orientation among the companions.
Cullen is straight because way back in DA:O, Sheryl wrote him as a straight man. Cassandra is straight because in DA II, David or Jennifer wrote her as a straight woman. Sera is gay because Luke wanted to write her that way.
By extension, this also applies to Anders (even if many wish to disregard it) given David's impressions while writing him.
(In general I agree with your point)

If I was straight, I would be pissed.

Because Cullen isn't a companion.

Such a bias isn't so unacceptable to me, but hopefully those who've gotten ganked out of the Cassandra option will find something elsewhere...
