I noticed a lack of general discussion thread on Cassandra and so have started one.

What do we know about Cassandra?

tumblr_mtjenwoEqp1qfx3hdo1_500.gif

Cassandra is a love interest for a male Inquisitor.

Cassandra is a warrior companion in Dragon Age: Inquisition
She is a Seeker of Truth. The Seekers are secretive organization within the Chantry based around rooting out corruption.
She interviewed Varric in Dragon Age II and afterwards traveled with him for some time.
She is a Pentaghast, the royal family of Navarra and famed dragon hunters.
She has killed a dragon.
She hates blood mages because they killed her older brother, Anthony.
She is the Hero of Orlais and the Right Hand of the Divine.

Here is Cassandra's Character Kit. She has little hearts on her costume.

Here is her write up:

Though of noble birth, Cassandra Pentaghast turned her back on a life of pomp and politics long ago, trading silk and lace for sword and shield.

Cassandra is a long-serving member of the Seekers of Truth. The quiet order both protects and polices the Chantry, and is granted ultimate authority in its investigations. Feared by everyone from the lowliest mage apprentice to the Templar leadership, all are subject to the righteous wrath of the Seekers. Their judgment is final.

Cassandra joined the order shortly after the death of her brother and quickly rose through their ranks. She is outwardly rigid and rarely shows any emotion, save anger and aggression. Sharp, pious, and driven, she is the sword in the right hand of the Divine, seeking justice above all else.

Character Profile:

[DRAGON AGE]: Dragon Age fans will remember Cassandra from the previous game, but for those meeting her for the first time, who exactly is she?

[DAVID GAIDER]: Cassandra is a member of the Seekers of Truth, the order that led the templars away from the Chantry to battle the mage rebellion… but she is also servant to the Divine, the spiritual leader of the Chantry and thus all of Thedas.

[DA]: Does that ever force her to pick sides?

[DG]: She is part of both worlds, and when those worlds come into conflict, she chooses to stand with the Divine because, as she sees it, the Divine is seeking to end the chaos rather than add to it. To her fellow Seekers, this makes Cassandra a traitor, but it puts her in a position to be there when the Inquisition is founded, to do what needs to be done.

It seems both her and the Inquisitor have a map-stabbing fetish.

Stabbing paper is a social power move in Thedas, if I remember correctly.  Only the powerful can muster the fortitude to perform such an act.

My mind tends to play ping-pong with BioWare companions.
A ) I bet I will love this character.
B ) I bet she will die horribly in the first chapter.
A ) I hope I can romance her.
B ) I suspect any romance will be dark and tragic.

Fortunately with us you know that while pinging and ponging, you're probably correct with all of your conclusions!

Okay, now I'm sure she won't die in the first chapter.

I see!

Special Snowflake is another term for Writer's Pet, which is a character the writer has favoritism towards so they are given things like special abilities or most commonly given plot armor.

I find special snowflake, in my own application, applies more to the realities that the player character, and the party members, tend to be rather unique and exceptionally capable individuals compared to much of the population, by virtue of being tied to the narrative.

The player character tends to be the most special snowflake, by virtue of being the one that resolves the principle conflicts in the game.

Damn, Allan swoops out of nowhere.

I have a predisposition to return to threads I have already posted in (by virtue of the board software reminding me that I have posted in it)

And it's very true that the Wardens have a dark side, which is part of what I like about them. I'm sure the Inquisition will, to, if only because in my play through I'll be intentionally and incharacter modeling it off the Wardens, but that's just all the more reason why I don't want to see the wardens loose to a shoddy knock off of themselves.

A shoddy knockoff!? :crying:

That was more a knock at myself; since I'll be modeling my Inquisitor's behavior off of a Warden mentality, I imagine it as being a shoddy knock off.

Ah!  So once you realize that the Inquisition has become the new power in the galaxy Thedas, the truth will be revealed to you.  Good to know! ;)

Removed some posts.  While it's free to disagree (I also disagree) with things other people say in other parts of the internet, but I'd prefer to not use this thread (or forum) as a springboard for attacking other people on other sites.

The upside isn't as high as potential downside IMO.

Thanks.

Why are you still continuing when clearly a mod came through here and sweeped it out intentionally. Drop it. Or take it to PM. This thread doesn't need to be derailed any further.

This.

EDIT: A bit more happened since I posted this, but it's mostly just an endorsement to put this behind.  I look at the post as an enthusiastic post because they are interested in the character, that some took as problematic and it was addressed, and I'd prefer people continue talking about Cassandra (in so much as they can, given the information available to her) rather than the tangent.

I do. The thing is feminine beauty is objectively aesthetically better looking. Masculine beauty is mostly more practical and simple, while feminine beauty is more elaborate and sophisticated. If you take hair for example, masculine typically is cut very short, for practical reasons, while feminine hairstyles are longer and carefully built.

I think that this is why it's not objective.  Some of the prettiest women I have met were ones that wore their hair short.

You'll have a hard time with "make her look good again" because there's people like me giving feedback that she looks great (a position I've maintained for a long time).

As for her opinions, keep in mind that there's a greater opportunity to show off her character moreso than DA2, which was a very narrow and focused perspective of Cassandra.  And she's a lot younger in the movie.

they need the hide helmet thing again for cutscenes.  I like the helmet itself, but you cant see your character too well in the cutscenes

I'm pretty sure the intent of the marketing this time around will be to not show the face of the protagonist as much as possible.

I didn't say she looked "bad" (as in really really ugly), but she looked tons better in DA2 (she did never have that barbie-doll-cosmetic-surgery-and-botox-plus-tons-of-make-up-look, which is FINE (don't like those kinds of women anyway), but she looked better (as in more beautiful))

That's fair.  Though I actually find her more attractive (and detailed) with the new game, so it's a tricky boat to balance.

And yes, call me Allan.

So there's a chance we'll have that option in-game?

To be honest I couldn't state definitively.  About a year ago I moved off of the Digital Acting team and onto the combat team.  I haven't seen it, but I also don't look for it.  I'll see if I can find someone that isn't too busy.

Yeah... am I the only one that scared out of my wit, yet madly attracted to her at the same time?

No. :)

She's probably my favourite character in terms of aesthetic design and the general overview I know of their character.

I stumbled upon I See Fire, which is from that other fantasy series. It reminded me of Cassandra.

Can anyone else think of a song that fits her?

How about this? :P

MESSAGE POPULAIRE !

Nor would the developers care about upsetting such a person. They're not making games for racists.

Absolutely correct. If someone wants to complain about not getting something they would have liked, they're free to do so. If, however, they do so in a racist or blatantly sexist or homophobic manner, they'll be shown the door. And if they honestly think they're fomenting some kind of mass revolution, they'll undoubtedly be disappointed to discover just how much in the minority they actually are.

As for the "rage" regarding people discovering that a character on whom they'd already pinned their romantic hopes suddenly isn't available to them (either by way of gender or race, which are both possibilities in DAI) -- them's the breaks. One can either deal with their disappointment in an in-game manner (nothing like actually interacting with a character rather than thinking about them solely  in the abstract), they can play as a different PC (if romancing that one character is the most important thing to their game), or they can come to the forums and complain about how them not getting that option in the game is somehow a violation of their rights or part of a larger socio-political conspiracy. It won't get them anywhere, but so long as they do it politely and are considerate of other posters, they are certainly free to vent their frustrations.

There is, however, this lingering feeling that lesbians have 'taken' the female elf romance from straight men, and that some fellows already have their gloating engines pre-heating for when the other shoe drops. I'd simply ask that this remain on tumblr and not make its way to the actual forums and fan threads.

I find myself compelled to agree. >.>

Carpet bombing moderation and being too lazy/busy to discern whether or not it's appropriate without the rest of the context around.
