I'm more than willing to make a trade  :P

I doubt the people at BioWare would approve, though

It's sad but I would take you up on it if I could.

Just curious, but what does class have to do with this?

It's more about the personality types that are associated (and frequently used) with those two archtypes.

Yeah, no female warrior one way or the other.

Aribeth from NWN was a warrior (Paladin, but close enough).

I also consider Ashley from ME fitting the role of the "warrior archtype"

It's not that I don't like Cassandra. It's that I just know she's the type that won't let me have any fun  ;)

She is absolutely my type, that's one reason why it sucks.

To be honest this cycle has happened to me before and it generally ends happily. For Mass Effect I was sad Ashley was unavailable, but enjoyed Liara's romance a lot throughout the entire series. In DAO I was dissapointed Morrigan wasn't available, but ended up liking Leliana way more anyway. This time around I don't doubt Scribbles or Sera will be fun romances for me. Hell who knows, Bioware might even manage to write a straight male romance I really enjoy (That isn't voiced by Carth please, sweet Jesus please...) but since my preference for women is way stronger I doubt it. But even in those past instances, the disappointment wasn't this pronounced. I'm not sure what's so different this time, I just really wanted Cass.

I little part of my is sort of happy that Cassandra is not bisexual (I'm totally sad for those who wanted to romance her), simply because I think Gaider write much better friendship arcs than romance ones (so far). If she had been bisexual, I wouldn't have seen that friendship path simply because none of the other charactesr interest me (like I at all, it's not even about romance) and I don't watch let's play on youtube.

I also have an little problem. Despite being hetero, I'm just incapable of romancing straight male LI in BioWare games. I don't know if it's psychological trauma from the Anomen and Carth romances when I was younger or just that BioWare totally fail at making a male LI and romance associated that I like. So I'm stuck romancing women with male and female characters being totally disconnect from my reality (I facepalm a lot actually, so I consider romance content to be comic relief...the only exception was Liara in LotSB).

Well for one Xena the princess warrior but really I was just fascinated by Cassandra being this tough as nails powerful women not to mention the whole romantic at heart comment although that has nothing to do with her being a warrior but I ramble.

I think she just has a different idea of fun.  Like slaying dragons and stabbing books.

I've been trying to examine why I'm still so broken up about Cass being straight, and I think this is it.  We've never really gotten an androgynous female LI for women before.  She's a particular "type" that really appeals to me, that we've never seen as a romance option for female players.

Exactly, and this is why I (and Cass-being-bi-community) still need enomous time to recover from Cass-being-straight fact. Devs are pretty sure what they are doing, I guess there's little chance they will make Cass bisexual, so I hope I could get over it before game releases. (And it pains me a looooooot)  (T^T)

I've never enjoyed any male LI's from Bioware either.

She wont be. Ever.

Unless Bioware is massively trolling us, she is 100% straight.

Like I said before, I already did this crushing on straight girls thing in high school Bioware, why are you making me feel these feels again? Hahaha

Her sexuality was locked down a long time ago. BioWare isn't going to change it this late in development because so much work has already gone into her. Writing and cinematic design are both expensive.

You have a dirty mind, sir! :P

I was actually paraphrasing one of sarcastic Hawke's lines with Aveline. Fun has a much broader definition here, including but not being restricted to your most sinful thoughts.

You know what I'm dreading now, post release. Some of the people who are sad now will go and try the Cassandra romance with a guy and will come to the conclusion that there was no real reasons to make Cassandra's straight beside writer's fantasies and will complain about it...a lot.

Cassandra's writer (David Gaider) is a gay man, though.

I was just referring to the DA series. Although personally, I'd disagree on Ashley. She was hardly a butchy warrior type.

I mean, their point might still overall be the case. We could see Cassandras romance once the game comes out and realize literally nothing would have been lost had they made her bi and I'll just be all sad face all over again, lol.

That happens with pretty much every romance sadly. I expect a new wave of disappointment and/or rants about the heterosexual and homosexual romances come a week after release.

Since the announcement I haven't even been able to look at a picture of Cassandra and I have no idea how I'm going to be able to play the game now. Hopefully I will get over it before the game arrives just talking about it tonight has helped. Holding it in as best that I could was not helping at all.

I think those pissed off at Cassandra being straight (it seems likely) shouldn't have gotten their hopes up to the point that they got upset over it.  Was I disappointed that Sera was a lesbian so that my male elf in a future playthrough wouldn't be able to romance here?  Yes, but I didn't get pissed over it and luckily I'm flexible so that male elf playthrough will be a female elf playthrough now.

I get what you're saying, but hmm, maybe a little bit of my perspective? I love rpgs and have been playing them pretty much since I learned how to read. Yet, out of all the titles I've played, I've been able to romance my first choice love interest in my own gender all of 3 times. So yes, sure, I can just play as a guy, romance somebody else, install a mod or whatever else suggestions I've seen being posted. Of course I know all that, because that's what I've done for pretty much every other game I've ever played. :) I think for people who are maybe used to getting their first choice most of the time, it might be, hmm, easy to forget that for some of us roleplaying as somebody we're not or compromising on what we want isn't a novel or interesting occasional sort of deal (an opportunity for fresh perspectives!). It's almost the only way I ever get to game. :P

Honestly, i was kind of worried about this sort of thing happening when the gender gating got announced, because the absence of gender gates is pretty much the only time I get a guaranteed "you can play as someone like you and still date who you want!" I do like that there will be queer representation among our companions, but I'm less happy that is representation is coming at the cost of my own ability to express who I am. Why is there some kind of weird sophie's choice dilemma where I have to choose beteween queer erasure for my companions or for myself? @_@ There's gotta be some other solution out there.

Sorry if the post ended up sounding kind of whiny? I'm not trying to complain so much as explain where I'm coming from. (ok, maybe I was compaining a little too lol). I think a lot of the unhappy people posting are just looking to vent/commiserate. I'm bummed out now, but I'll suck it up and makes things work as per usual when the game actually comes out. :)

I know that, I didn't meant it in a sexual way.  I meant it has "it's all in their head" way.

It's funny. I didn't like it in DA2 because the male and female versions of the romances were essentially identical. The important differences and dynamics that made the relationships feel more personal weren't there.

But now, I think playersexual is the only fair way to do it. Either everyone can have them, or nobody can.

I kind of wish they decided Cass couldn't be romanced at all. It still would have hurt, but probably not nearly as much. And at least it would have fair to share the misery with both sides.

With multiple races, having all "playersexual" romances would be incredibly expensive (in terms of cinematic design and writing). Read Allan Schumacher's OP on the official romance thread.
