... And a well timed example!Well, at this point all we can say is that we confirmed that the Divine is left handed.

Perhaps he just felt her story was more straight womanish.
*shrugs* Well, he is the writer, his prerogative I guess.
Or he got tired of people making jokes about the Divine and how she liked to use her Right and Left hand.

Androgynous is not really the right word, but the person I was quoting also said "butch" and that didn't entirely fit her to me, either. For lack of better descriptors, she's more "masculine" than other female LIs we've had. She's a warrior, she's a leader, she's serious and stoic. She's still drop-dead gorgeous, but as far as a Bioware LI goes, she's the most butch lady LI I've seen, and that's what makes her stand out so much.
She has a lot of traits that are erroneously thought of as masculine. The fact of the matter is, none of her traits require external genitalia.

Or, in his mind, that's a part of who she is. "Why don't you make her blonde? What does it matter?!"
Yeah, I would think that would be most likely.

Yes!Do you mean this? Because I would totally be down with her wearing this outfit.

I would just call her tough. I said elsewhere that she reminded me of my mom. My mom is "womanly" too, but she also grew up dirt poor, worked hard on farms, fought off big brothers, and when i was young, got shot in the neck (and has the scar to prove it). I might say I'm disappointed if women are the complete opposite. She shaped my idea of women from a young age.

Are you suggesting that all masculine traits require external genitalia? (Which, um, women actually have.)

I may not have phrased that correctly. What I'm saying is that all of her traits are really gender neutral, but are thought of as male because we like to hog all the cool stuff.

...I never said they did.
I'm just saying those are traits not typically seen in female LIs, and that those traits happen to be things that are more commonly found in male characters because they are associated with masculinity.

Cassandra and Cullen together if they're not romanced! Semi-confirmed rumourHe wants to ship her with Cullen.

I don't think he sees sexual orientation as equivalent to hair color.

I think people dismiss this way too easily. I stubbornly resist to even change my character's hair color. I wouldn't be surprised if it was the same with BioWare writers.

I might think DG is a smartass sometimes, but I never doubt his integrity as a writer. If he does something or envisions things a certain way, I'm sure he has a in-story/in-character reason for it. Not some other ulterior motive.

Unless it involves pregnancy, I can't see why.
That is one very logical reason but we honestly won't know until the game is out. I'm with you in that I wish Cass had been available to both genders but Gaider wrote the story he wanted to write. There sometimes is no more explanation than that

The writers don't determine the hair color though. The character artists do.

There is kid(s)
There is also homophobia or at least issues (I know some people aren't going to be fan of that)
There is "All the women hits on me, but men ignore me all the time" drama (that one is almost real)
There is "I'm just not attracted to women that way" (the case for all straight women)
There is "A witch cursed me to fall in love with men only" (it's a magical setting with witches)
There is "It wouldn't be appropriate in the eye of the Maker" (or some other religious point-of-views, she is pious)
I'm sure I could find others.
Or he got tired of people making jokes about the Divine and how she liked to use her Right and Left hand.
That's a joke? Going by how Dorothea had a thing with Marjolaine and her subsequent mentoring of Leliana...
She had a lot of traits that are erroneously thought of as masculine. The fact of the matter is, none of her traits require external genitalia.
Gender definitions were originally socially based and not based on genitalia. The meaning changed over time.

I love how these boards work. It was unrealistic and dumb when everyone was playersexual. Now they make a few characters straight/gay and there is some hidden "reason" she can't like girls. It is just her character. Good for her.

I've noticed that when people are upset over a design choice they are more likely to post about it looking for others to commiserate with. Granted this is just annecdotal observations but it seems reasonable. A happy person will make a few posts about being happy, but a sad person will make a lot more about being sad. Drama also tends to be more noticable on the internet.

Yeah, I know, but the same basic principle applies. Just yesterday I tried to see if I could change a character's sexuality just for a quick trial run.
It felt all kinds of wrong.
