Nationality and ethnicity are often different. Why make a claim as to what Cassandra's ethnicity is when we have no way of knowing?

She is a member of a family that has been ruling Nevarra for the better part of 700 years. I'd assume that they'd see themselves as Nevarran by now, even if they identified as something else 700 years ago.

Cassandra seems to be the tank companion of Inquisition, like Alistair and Aveline of games past, so she'll probably be the one saving my Mage PC's hide 24/7. Looking forward to being besties with her.
I love the new tradition of female warrior tanks in Dragon Age games - Mhairi (Maker watch over her), Aveline and Cassandra are all so badass. Strong independent women who don't need no love interest.

I see it as a nerd dream. This "teh warrior woman" is becomint a boring trend.

There has only been one female warrior companion in DA.

Then it really isn't a trend.

I've been wondering, what bird is that in your avatar?

True. Nevarra is pretty much one of the few nations where it isn't really based on any country on Earth. I think people just go with Egyptian to keep with the "Relate Thedas with Medieval Europe" thing since Egypt was in close contact with them.

I think it's because they have a 'Grand Necropolis.'

Uh... only one female Warrior?

  • Mhairi in Awakening. She was short-lived - literally - but still a companion nonetheless.
  • Ariane, our Dalish chum in Witch Hunt. She deserves more screen time IMO, I ship her and Finn for some reason.
  • Aveline, our badass guard in Dragon Age 2.
  • Cassandra, coming up in Inquisition.

I count four. :P

And I said it was a potential trend because of the pattern below;

Awakening > Witch Hunt > DA2 > Inquisition
Mhairi > Ariane > Aveline > Cassandra

One female warrior that could have been a love interest. There were no romances in Awakening (and Mhairi attained Daveth/Ser Jory status in importance to the plot) nor in Witch Hunt.

Aahh, I see! You were referring to romancable female warriors - I was talking about them as companions in general, not just love interests.Sorry, I misunderstood.

Her superior becoming the thing that dominated her young life and killed her sibling?

Three guesses how she will react, if she doesn't spit on you i will be surprised.

I would like at least a good solid punch.

I'm going to guess that you've misunderstood the conversation.

No one has claimed that Cassandra is hispanic or that Navarra is Spain. We're talking about someone on tumblr who thought Cassandra was white washed and wondering what non-white REAL WORLD race or ethnicity they thought she might be.

People were wondering if she was supposed to be like a Hispanic. I replied that is incorrect as Nevarra is not based on Spain.

OR! a step in the right direction...?

The big-dude with a shield is just as boring, guy. In the end it all depends on how it's done.  ;)

I've always thought of Cass more of a Mexican than Spanish, same with Nevarra.

And doesn't it look like our companions would have weapon choices open inside their class, this time? I remember Cass with 2H as well, as S&S at least. I'd like to make her 2H if i can, S&S in DA were boring so far to me.

If the Unknown Nevarran Ambassador is "only" seventy-third in line for the Nevarran Throne, then how far or close is Cassandra? She's obviously a Pentaghast so she could be a little closer to the Royal Ruling Line.

Now that I think about it, what happened to her parents? In Dawn of the Seeker she was living in a small village with her older brother, Anthony, and Uncle. Does that mean she was an orphan?

So many questions. Hopefully having Cassandra as a Companion will shed a little light into her personality and past. Thus far, we have only seen bare glimpses of the the Hero of Orlais.

I can see how nerds find this idea of dominatrix type women intriquing. ;)

As for me it is another step away from realism. That big dude with shield just is more natural.

If the idea of big, buff dudes is what does it for you, that's fine. Enjoy the Iron Bull and we'll enjoy Cassandra.

Really, man? You're just as much a nerd as anyone else here. So cut the condescending crap. Cass is hardly a dominatrix either.

Haha! You might have a point there. :)

Don´t get me wrong though, I´ll accept woman as a warrior as long as she is built as such. These wannabe supermodels just don´t have what it takes. :)

Cassandra is currently the female follower in DA:I that I like the most for now. Just because she seems to be sensible, get the job done type of person. I like that a lot.

There is Vivienne and Sera. We don't know much about Sera. However, Vivienne seems diva-ish, too extravagant on clothes and power hungry.

We know that she is a distant cousin to the king of Nevarra (old Markus). Going by what that means usually (it change from place to place), she could be a 2nd cousin or farther away. She could be very close to the throne or very far away depending how much the Pantaghasts have in commons with rabbits.

As for her village, the Pentaghasts are hunters. Their ancestral home is called Hunter Fell (and I'm going to joke that their moto is Dragons are coming), so I can see them actually living in hunting villages and not castles in the hunting seasons.

There is one comment to Byron in DoTS, along with the brother fixation, that make me think Cassandra never had a father. She tell Byron that she would be proud to have him as a father (*sniff*).
