So it seems Cassandra is going to get along with a decent amount of the companions. Do any of you see any companions that she will probably be at odds with for most of the game. Vivienne and Iron Bull seem to get along with her fine judging from the interview, but it's said there is a little tension in beliefs. Varric will probably be a little bitter towards her for a little bit, but I think he will get over it. But what of the other companions?

*snip*

I heard that she will not get along well with Sera and Varric because they like to bait her. Cassandra is stoic, and those two just keep bugging her until they get a reaction. So yeah, Cassandra is a troll magnet.

My guesses on how she'll get along with squad

She'll get along well with Vivienne, Iron Bull,

Mixed relationship with Dorian, Sera, Blackwall

Issues with Solas, Varric, Cole

I find it difficult to believe that someone who approaches people with weapons drawn, tends to shout at them, and seems volatile would get along with most of the party.

Actually, the writers described Cassandra's relationship with Solas and Cole as "Team Mutually Respectful Moral and Theological Debate".

Inquisitor: 'Does she always shout like that?'

Varric: 'Oh no. It's just because you're new. She'll stop eventually.'

Inquisitor: 'Ah, she warms up after a while?'

Varric: 'Nah, she just saves her voice in case she meets someone new.'

I have been wondering exactly what that means. Perhaps it is based on Solas and Cassandra having different opinions on Cole and it's just Solas that she will get along with or it could just be debates on how to see things. Cassandra is dutiful and follows orders. Perhaps Solas' open minded attitude will be something they will debate on.

Why would you add gay men to the Bechdel test?

They're not women.

It was somewhat of a joke based on the fact that most of the movies I watched with a gay man and a straight female friend usually end up about them talking about a man.

WAIT, WAIT. HOLD THE THREAD, I HAVE A QUESTION. And I'm writing in capitals so you know i'm super cereal.....

...Even though we ladies are barred from Cassandramancing, can we still hug her??? Not a romantic hug just a 'yes well done, good demon slaying today. Have a hug' kind of hug. Like how some guy pat each other on the ass after sports (really don't get why that's done btw) but you know, with Cassandra.

Like Maria said, the writers were giving team names to various party lineups on Twitter.

Patrick Weekes described Cassandra, Solas, and Cole.

That makes two of us. Back when I played football in HS, the ass grabbing was just confusing.

You can hug some companions. Which ones you can hug and whether the hugging is gender/race/class-gated hasn't isn't known yet.

I'm sure asspats would be race gated. Really awkward for Iron Bull to pat a dwarf ass.

It's just a pat on the head.

The Bechdel Test was designed around the a desire for woman-woman relationships; it explicitly is not about male-female relationships. Adding a gay man to it is like adding a man to lesbian porn. It undermines the very concept.

Let me rephrase my point. The Bechdel Test checks when the stereotypes of male-female relationships dominated over any other kind. You fail the test when the relationship of a woman with anything else depends on a man- it's automatic if there are no other females, and conditional if the two women talk about men. That makes it highly about male-female relationships, even if that is the 'failure' state.

The use of the lesbian porn analogy is interesting, but I think this because of what the Becchdel Test means to you may be much different to what it means to others. The Bechdel Test isn't a test for a lesbian relationship (and no, I'm not saying you are saying it is), but a check that women could be characters without relying on a male-female relationship stereotypes that people held (such that women just talk about men).

The Beccdel test is passed when women can talk to eachother without the gender relationship stereotype coming into play (women focus on men). For people who use this understanding, a gay!Beccdel test would involve the people involved talking without the relationship stereotype coming into play.

Which would not be adding a gay man to the test, but creating a separate test.

Which, for discussion short hand so that people might get a grasp of what is being looked for... could be associated with the Bechdel Test.

After DA2, I think Cassandra acknowledges that there are far worse things than apostates and spirits/demons. Non-mages can be just as bad.

This is just my theory, but I get the impression that Cassandra perceives Solas and Cole as the least threatening versions of the "evils" she has fought her entire life (or rather, what other apostates and spirits/demons can strive to be). Solas wants a dialogue (and peace), rather than conflict. Cole wants to help, rather than to harm.

A test about women is not secretly a test about men and women.

Again, lesbian porn fails if the women start having sex with a men, but lesbian porn is not about men.

Behold! The Russo Test:

Russo test

In 2013, the American lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender media organization introduced the "Vito Russo Test", intended to analyze the representation of LGBT characters in films. Inspired by the Bechdel test and named after film historian Vito Russo, it encompasses three criteria:

  1. The film contains a character that is identifiably lesbian, gay, bisexual, and/or transgender.
  2. The character must not be solely or predominantly defined by their sexual orientation or gender identity.
  3. The character must be tied into the plot in such a way that their removal would have a significant effect.

- Wiki

Is that something like you were thinking? ^-^

On topic; I love Cassandra's design. I don't think my first character will see eye-to-eye with her because my first play through will have a selfish butt for Inquisitor. But I am looking forward to all the interactions, including arguments that might come.

I personally think that Cassandra see Cole for what he is: a spirit that crossed the veil when someone else died. The Nevarrans respect these sort of spirits so much that they create tombs and pretty corpses just for them. I think she might be a very stereotypical Nevarrans which include: love of heroics, arts, warmongering and respecting the spirits/deads.
