Unlikely; all it means is that the character in question wouldn't care about such things and that the romance dialogue will be based on things not related to race or gender.

Let's say that Bioware wants to write how a noble; Trevalyan; from a Free Marches city that borders Nevarra falls in love with a Pentaghast, a member of the Nevarran royal family. That is the type of romance Bioware wants for the Human/Cassandra romance.

If she is not race-gated, that type of romance won't work for dwarves and elves whose interactions with her would be entirely different.

Since they have a budget for each LI, the noble/noble romance suffers because it has to share it with the other races. But if they race-gate her, they can focus solely on that type of romance and thus it will be more nuanced with more dialogue that would have, otherwise, been distributted.

Of course, that depends entirely on just how specific they're looking to make Cassandra's romance. It could be something that pertains only to gender thus making her availability to other races a non-issue.

I would find it somewhat puzzling that such a romance would necessarily be all that distinct, unless there were plans for marriage... and those wouldn't even work if the PC was a mage. So either Cassandra would also be classgated, or their background would likely not change the future of the romance all that much. It's not as though Hawke's background added anything unique to any of the romances in DA2.

If i had to guess, she would possibly be race gated to dwarves, qunari and maybe elves if she's race gated. She could be the typical straight male human LI only for heir reasons, being a noble from the Pentaghasts etc etc. Vey typical.

(and boring tbh)

Spoiler

There's also the consideration that Cassandra's story, including her romance, was probably nailed down when the game was being developed around a human-only player character.  After the one year delay and addition of other races, it is possible that the developers decided not to devote resources to make her romance be available to other races, but instead focus them on creating new romances.

Well everybody is guaranteed two options regardless of race or orientation. You may not have the choices you want, but you will have a choice.

That said, I came up with an awesome Dalish Artifacer concept I'd like to use for Cass.

Exactly. I believe it was stated that the idea of making Cassandra a romance for the next DA game was already floating around DA 2.

If she wanted to be a professional dragon slayer, she could have stayed at home.

She had more opportunity to kill dragons after she joined the Chantry than by staying back home. Just in 9:22 her kill count was at 5...when most people still think dragons are extincts. Wouldn't surprise me if the Warden in DAO didn't kill the "Andraste Dragon" at the Temple of Sacred Ashes, that the Chantry had Cassandra do it too.

Well, given that that's a ridiculous strawman, I didn't feel the need to respond to that directly. If you demand such, I've always been interested in romance, but no, romance options aren't the only characters I've cared about.

About as ridiculous and pointless as the remark you made, since my point was clearly that I harkened back for the days where romance was not even a part of an RPG....

Perhaps so, but what you said was "back when banging wasn't all people cared about," or something.

Xil's point also addressed that those days typically excluded certain types of people in the stories that were told, as opposed to these days, where you can play as a straight or gay character in games like New Vegas or Dragon Age.

Eh, too soon to say. After all, the romances in DA2 weren't bad and Hawke was only Human. Besides, the most important, plot-wise, romances in DA2 are Anders and Isabela who are Human. Both are also the most controversial companions in DA2.

So if Cassandra is regulated to only romancing a male human than I'm sure it'll still turn out good. Heck, maybe far better than the others due it being a much more focused state for both characters.

ANYWAY the point was: Can we steer this topic back to Cassandra's OTHER qualities than wether or not you can bang her? She is a lot more nuanced of a character than for us to be stuck discussing that part of it.

Well, to start, I'm curious under what circumstances she's going to cede authority to the Inquisitor.  The game does not start with the player character in charge after all.

That is also one of the things that baffles me. She does not appear to be one to jsut let go of her leadership posistion. Maybe she fails in some task and decide to step down herself?

It'll probably have somewhat to do with the protagonist having some religious connotations surrounding him, having survived the cataclysm at a holy site and now possessing the power to close the tears in the Breach (which may be attributed to a divine force, depending on the respective person).

No clue. It's interesting, cause she seems like she would not cede authority to us at all, unless circumstance were to force her. What those circumstances are, I have not a clue.
