It'll probably have somewhat to do with the protagonist having some religious connotations surrounding him, having survived the cataclysm at a holy site and now possessing the power to close the tears in the Breach (which may be attributed to a divine force, depending on the respective person).

Yeah, but I doubt Cass would buy into that BS. Leliana might, but I doubt Cass would cede power to us because of it. She seems like a much more realistic person.

That is also one of the things that baffles me. She does not appear to be one to jsut let go of her leadership posistion. Maybe she fails in some task and decide to step down herself?

I figure that she cedes authority willingly after the player proves there worth at some point in the plot, or she's forced to do so by the other companions.  It could be either, based on player actions.

It may have more to do with what could unite people than with what Cassandra believes, as it's more likely people could rally around a figure they believe to be divinely touched than someone they may not have heard about.

Touche. Perhaps we might just be a figurehead initially, until Cassandra truly believes we need to be the leader.

There wasn't ANY romances back in the days. Holy friggin' hell, how hard can it be to get that point???

When was this? I recall the first romance I encountered in a game was 1989s Prince of Persia. Quest for Glory II: Trial by Fire in 1990 also had optional romance and was an RPG. The second King's Quest, Romancing the Throne, came out in 1985 and the plot was about rescuing a beautiful young woman and making her your wife.

The original Leisure Suit Larry came out in 1987 and was all about a hero trying to 'romance' women.

In those games the "romance" was written into the plot. There was no choice to participate in it or not. I am talking of the old RPGs, such as the original Dungeons and Dragons for PC. Romances didn't really gain prominence in games (as optional content) until early to mid 90s.

I am not about to complain about a romance that is written into the plot, just like I don't complain about it in the movies. it is ultimately useless because the characters are written in that specific way, and has nothing to do with roleplaying.

I do hope there's a way to push Cassandra away from that position rather soon, if she initially holds it.

I doubt it'll be extremely quick. No one will listen to you from the get go. At that point, you're a nobody.

Yeah, I don't think, "But I'm the Player Character!" is going to get much traction.

That is something I've been curious about. The ability to close Fade tears in no way implies the ability to lead. So just why is the Inquisitor in charge and not simply the Inquisition's most important operative?

That's probably a major arc of the story.  The player starting a essentially a weapon against the breach growing into the leader of the Inquisition.

It'll have to be soon enough to justify the Inquisitor leading the party and doing all of the talking.

Cassandra: "Welcome to the Inquisition! You're gonna be our figurehead, because you got a hand that glowes."

*one main quest later*

Cassandra: "It seems I misjudged you, I herby make you the leader of the inquisition."

Not really, Your a figurehead/Tool for a reason.

You do all that stuff, Your Leader on paper, not defacto Leader.

You're unique. Not just in terms of what you've accomplished, but what you represent...

I remember the time Commander Shepard broke into a nightclub and murdered the entire staff despite having no legal authority, and then the Council decided that was compelling evidence to make her one of the most powerful government agents in the galaxy.

I sure hope the rationale for leading the Inquisition is better than 'shoots up bars.'

That would be nice.

I doubt that is what will happen though.

I'm reasonably sure it's not murder if the entire staff tries to kill you first.

And i don't know if the Reapers understand fear but you killed one, that's a fact they have to respect...

I have my own theories on the matter of course but that's all they are.

Which makes me wonder how Cassandra will convince the protagonist to stay and be part of the Inquisition, as I doubt her saying "I worked for the Chantry" will mean much to a Dalish or Vashoth.

They were closed, You were trespassing and i am fairly certain there is a stand your ground law on the citadel :P

Well, its not like they didn't do the Citadel a favor by shooting up that club.

But yeah, I get your point.

Maybe Cassandra is more submissive than she would like to admit, hence why she allows the inquisitor to lead the party  :P

I've been wondering this exact thing... it implies that our background already involves combat and/or leading troops, unless Cassandra is the leader for the first string of missions, then decides to hand you limited authority (that increases over time)?

edit:  If that much of the backstory is set in stone, then it makes me wonder if there's going to be much room for roleplaying at all... I mean, I was hoping to try out a somewhat reluctant character who doesn't see the logic of being placed in command of a large army (or even a small force...) when he's never done anything like that... guess all we can do is wait and see.
