My male human Inquisitor will be smitten the moment she smashes open a door.

Inquisitor: (watches the gates crumble) I think I'm in love...

Varric: Why do all my protagonists go for either the violent or crazy?

Sera: Don't they usually go for both?

Varric: Nah. Daisy was the sweetest blood mage you'd ever meet.

It seems both her and the Inquisitor have a map-stabbing fetish.

Stabbing paper is a social power move in Thedas, if I remember correctly.  Only the powerful can muster the fortitude to perform such an act.

My mind tends to play ping-pong with BioWare companions.
A ) I bet I will love this character.
B ) I bet she will die horribly in the first chapter.
A ) I hope I can romance her.
B ) I suspect any romance will be dark and tragic.

Fortunately with us you know that while pinging and ponging, you're probably correct with all of your conclusions!

Yeah, silly of us to not expect heart wrenching romances from Bioware, one of the things that keeps many enthralled. So, brace yourselves, people, Thedas offers no easy walk.

Merrill offered no difficulty for me. Everything is easy when you know you're right.

Of course, Cassandra is of royal blood. Even in the case she comes from a secondary branch, she must have received proper education about how to stab a book :D

Little Cassandra: "Father, why do I have to stab this book? Couldn't I read it instead?"

Cassandra's father: "You're a Pentaghast! No daughter of mine is going to be mocked by a pansy Orlesian because she didn't know how to stab paper!"

That is hysterical when I picture it in a German/Dutch? accent.

Which one is it, by the way?

There was something David Gaider said once on his tumblr that gave me the impression Cassandra and Leliana don't get along. But I may have just taken it the wrong way.

His comment could be taken in so many different ways, but Cassandra can not stand fool and Leliana can be a bit foolish.

In a way, Cass remind me of Morrigan, with the difference that she's not "selfish": Morrigan does everything so she can to gain power, while Cassandra does everything in the name of duty (as far as we know).

Gaider might have written three companions, though there's the chances one of them is Cole, which means he would be excludes by the romance count.
Anyway there are good chances Cassandra is a LI.

He wrote two companions for DAI, he said so himself on tumblr in different occasions. He also mentioned writing two romances on tumblr (to someone who said that she loved his romance in DAO).

How does that new headband thingy stay on?

Has she ever read Hard in Hightown or does she just keep copies around to stab in frustration when Varric is being difficult?

FLOWERS?

What the actual hell is that accent?

These are things the people need to know.

I really, really hope that she is an LI because it is something we have not yet seen in any Bioware game thus far, and appeals to me in a way that other female characters in dragon age haven't really so far. A female warrior who is hot blooded and short tempered but also focused on order and control. I much prefer this to the more meek, laid back or conniving female LI's we've seen in the previous games. Hard headed, blunt and tightly-stung are what I'm hoping to see.

Yes, this. And I really hope she's available to both genders or i'll be so sad. D:

And I can assure she doesn't speak with a Spanish accent  :P Just compare her to Zevran. So German, then?

I guessed Dutch mostly because of the construction of several Nevarran family names (Van Markham, Van Reeves).

German does make sense then. Or maybe it was just an accent made up by Miranda herself.

"Van" is definitly Dutch... didn't know that! I knew I had a reason for liking Nevarra so much! :P

Damn, it's true! :D But yeah, the source of Cassandra's accent is one of those big mysteries in Thedas, like the origin of the Black City or knowing for sure if the Dalish wear shoes or not.

Yeah. Both of them being loyal to the Divine and part of the Chantry doesn't mean they have much in common. They could play the typical Nevarran-Orlesian rivalry (yes, Ferelden is not the only country with a grudge): the militaristic, unrelenting and stand-offish Prussian Nevarran dragon hunter versus the underhanded, fashion-lover and friendly French Orlesian super spy.

Maybe it's a mix of several influences? Antiva screams Italian city-state, but Zevran spoke with a Spanish accent, yeah. I think Spanish keeps been mentioned for the Nevarra-Navarre association, but there doesn't seem to be any parallelism apart from the name (unless it's a Basque accent, but I seriously doubt Bioware would complicate things so much).

Technically, Leliana loves everyone and she is more Ferelden at heart than Orlesian. So I doubt any disagreement between the two is based on that. I can see Leliana having issues with Cassandra's personality though.

The Nevarra vs Orlais thing has more chance of playing out with Vivienne or another companion (if we get a even more Orlesian one).

I also wonder, with all the Nevarra tension with Orlais mentioned in lore, how Cassandra is received there. She is part of Nevarra ruling family and I doubt the Chevaliers are happy that a Nevarran (and a woman) was named Hero of Orlais.

Well, Leliana considers herself a Fereldan at heart, but no matter what she might think of herself, her demeanour, accent, fashion sense, connections, experience, job and outlook at life are heavily influenced by Orlais. But yeah, I think it will come all down to personality. Heck, in DA:O few seemed to care about Leliana there despite all the bad history between Ferelden and Orlais.

The Nevarra vs Orlais thing has more chance of playing out with Vivienne or another companion (if we get a even more Orlesian one).

Oh, yes, it seems Bioware wanted to outdone themselves by having the most Orlesian of the Orlesians in your party. Leliana is going to look like a barbarian near Vivienne :D Of course, Leliana probably won't be a companion, so we need another foil for Cassandra. Since Vivienne is also a mage, that's even more contrast! Looking forward to their party banter.

Well, she saved the Divine in a rather spectacular fashion before thousands of Orlesians, so at least the common people shouldn't antagonize her. The nobles, on the other hand... (those important book-stabbing lessons might help her save face).

Hold up, he said he's writing two companions and two romances for Inquisiton? Isn't that basically as good as saying that Cassandra is romancable, considering how she's one of the two companions he'll be writing? It's seems really odd to me. I don't think that he would reveal something pretty big like that so off-handedly and indirectly.

I was thinking of the Dragon Age II quest called Magistrate's Orders.

A magistrate in high town asks you to retrieve a criminal alive. When you head to where the guards are waiting, they tell you that he's the magistrate's son and a serial killer who's apparently murdered dozens of elves and elven children in the Alienage. Whenever he's caught, the magistrate makes sure he gets a light sentence and goes free again.

When you meet the killer, he seems to be suffering psychologically and believes that he's possessed by demons who force him to kill people against his will.

You can either kill him or hand him over to the guards.

Which of these do you think Cassandra would prefer?

In Neverwinter Nights, David wrote the Aerin Gend and... elf paladin lady (what was her name?) romances and neither of them were companions.

Edit: Apparently, none of the companions approve of handing him over to the guards. Wow. That's sort of shocking to me.

Killing him, like literally everyone else in your party (except Anders, who has no opinion).

It was really bizarre. I thought it was a nuanced issue. But apparently whoever wrote the quest is a big fan of vigilantism.
