I've never had a problem with companions romancing one another.

I might even find it amusing if Cassandra and Verric have started dating each other.

That would explain why they travel together after the interrogation ended... and also would ****** off many fans :D I like the idea, though.

Bend the rules?

Samara has to hunt down Ardat-Yakshi as long as she's alive.
Her daughter is an Ardat-Yakshi but is free because the monastery was destroyed.
Samara doesn't want to kill her daughter.

Samara's solution to this is to kill herself. The only thing that prevents this is that her daughter agrees to spend the rest of her life in said monastery. Note here: Falere is the only one left alive in the monastery and she's just watched the only people she's known for a couple centuries be horrifically murdered within it. That's rather nightmarish.

I have no doubt Samara loves her daughter, but let's contemplate the fact that after her daughter has gone through some deeply traumatic violence, Samara is about to blow her brains out while her daughter watches because she has a code she has to follow, no matter what.

Apologies for the late reply. I would point out that the code dictates that she kill her daughter--the fact that she does anything other than that does indeed mean she's bending the rules.

As for Samaria herself, she never totally clicked with me. Outside of those moments post-LM in ME2 when she tells Shepard, "I just killed the smartest and bravest of my daughters..."

But this is all wildly off topic. Apologies.

I think it would be awesome, personally. I've always loved it when companions flirt with each other and hint at relationships forming between party members. It makes it seem a little more realistic, like these people actually have lives and interests that don't revolve 100% around the PC. As for Cassandra and Varric specifically, my interest was piqued when BioWare revealed that the two of them travel together pre-Inquisition--and then even moreso by that brief shot in one of the demos where she comforts him after that village gets wasted. Their relationship has obviously evolved beyond interrogator/interrogatee, and I'd be curious to see just how much. ;)

Plus, I'm pretty sure that flirtatious banters among party members don't trigger in playthroughs where one of them is in a relationship with the PC, so there's really no reason for people to see it as a threat to Cassandra and/or Varric's potential romanceability status.

at the behest of my dear friend Tash, I declare the following:

Anyone that Cassandra romances that is not me, I will eliminate from my party. I will willingly share myself but I refuse to share my Nevarran Queen.

So you get all the goods and none of the bads? Clever.

Interviews with devs hint at them arguing all the time. We even have a concept art showing just that: the War Room one. They are both pointing fingers at each others looking angry. I suspect they are quite good at pushing each others buttons.

I just hope one of the Inquisition dialog banter with them is "Get a room!".

I expect the companions to argue as it's a staple of BioWare games. I still feel horrible about killing paladin dude because he decided to attack Viconia.

Oh wait, I wonder if that may be making a come back? That would be one way of having mutually exclusive characters. Can you imagine the reaction if, say, Cassandra and Solas started arguing and one decided to kill the other?

They totally should have done that with Jack and Miranda in ME 2.

That would have been interesting. Although, even though I'm a much bigger Jack fan, I imagine Miranda would get the majority of fan votes. Her skillset is better than everyone on the whole team.

I guess they tried to do some of this, under unique conditions, with Liara/Garrus and Virmire survivor in ME3. But not as much as I'd like. Also, I think there was an early version of Thessia's storyarc where Liara and VS were pitted against each other too, but it got dropped.

Inquisitor: Look at you two, bickering like an old married couple.

Varric: Getting a little ahead of ourselves aren't we? Our relationship could be purely physical.

Cassandra: (rolls eyes) Of course it is.

Nah, if we were going to have two characters romance each other I can totally see a Vivienne-Solas thing. Opposites attract after all.

Varric and Cassandra seem to be opposites to me.

She's an aggressive, idealistic warrior and he's a laid back but pragmatic rogue. In DA II, she's attempting to seek out the truth and Varric is all about spinning elaborate stories.

True, but in what we've seen so far they just don't seem to mesh in that way.

I'm not sure if Cassandra is an idealist exactly. Also, she's quite pragmatic, more than Varric when it comes to Crestwood in the PAX demo too. He is the one who wanted to save the village, Cassandra was "screw the village, we need to protect the Inquisition", just more polite in how she said it.

If something horrible happens with Sera, such as her not being an option, I might go for Cassandra.

Very happy to hear that Cassandra is a LI. We've had a female soldier LI in Ashley, so it's great to finally have a female warrior in Dragon Age.

*pumps fist in the air*

Now just give me confirmation that all the LIs will be available for every gender and I can happily go into blackout until DA:I is released. Until then, I'm afraid I shall continue biting my nails. I can't even properly enjoy the news about Cass, because there's this little voice in the back of my head whispering "She might only be a LI for male Inquisitor..." before laughing maniacally.
