Yup, case in point Varric, very popular fellow, unavailable. Bioware have their reasons, just gotta go with the flow even when some of the LI restrictions disappoint me.

Well, I'm not really set to be disappointed - I'm playing a female Inquisitor my first run. I'll make a male one to go down Cassandra's romance route eventually, but I can't see Cassandra being the race gated one. Vivienne seems to be the likely contender for race gating already, and female options would be pretty limited for some people if both her and Cassandra were shut out for, say, dwarves.

Well since I will be playing as a Dalish elf, this will not be a problem.

 

By the way, as for the "grabbing her men and sweeping them off their feet" part, you can apply that to Dwarven men as well. Though Cassandra being in a relationship with a Dwarf from a Carta family...would certainly be interesting, to say the least.
