That quote about the books, comic and the movie is interesting, but I'm not sure I'm particularly happy with it. I haven't read any of the books or the comics, and I only watched a third of the movie, and to be honest, I have no intention of changing that. I want to experience DA as a character of my own making, rather than viewing it through the eyes of an already established character. (I do have The Stolen Throne lying around here somewhere, but the chances of me actually reading it are dwindling.)
I hope that they don't have TOO many things referencing them in the actual game. I'd hate to miss out on really important bits just because I don't engage in the extra-reading.
Concerning Cassandra's past love life: It entirely depends on how it's handled. An off-hand mention of 'Oh yeah, there was this mage guy I liked, but nothing ever came of it/we broke up a few years ago' wouldn't bother me at all. But an entire quest or story-arc dedicated to her relationship with Mage Guy? That would probably put me off. I mean, if I were interested in a girl in real life and she kept talking about her ex, I'd probably feel slightly awkward at best and rather annoyed at worst. (Something that actually happened to me. I was on a date with this girl and she kept talking about her last girlfriend. They'd just broken up, apparently, and you can imagine that I realized pretty quickly that things wouldn't lead anywhere.)
In Cassandra's case, I imagine a few years must have passed since then. So her still being hung up on that guy would be pretty weird....or reason to seek counseling, because then it would border on obsession. And if it hasn't been years since then and they've just broken up recently? That doesn't seem like a very good place for a new romance to start.
