Laidlaw confirmed companions share the PC's specs. So Cass is either templar or champion. I think the former.

Although they could surprise us. Maybe Blackwall was a Templar before he joined the Wardens. The writer interview did say that Cassandra focuses on defending those who need help the most.

Here's the relevant bit:

It depends on where the greatest danger lies and who is threatened. She's very practical in battle, and far more oriented toward protecting the helpless and innocent before any other consideration. Fighting is not about having style or showing off; it's a necessary means to an end.

I see Blackwall more as the Champion so Templar for Cass it is.

You would think so, but she did show Champion-like skills in the very first gameplay demo.

The same goes for Blackwall though.

Maybe they threw us a curve ball and both Cassandra and Blackwall are champions. This calls for a song!

I'm so drunk right now. Be afraid, people!

Carver becomes a Templar in the Wardens. Why would this upset you?

The hawke siblings not having their own spec like the other companions bugged me in DA2, Blackwall having Templar would annoy me because this would be the 3rd Grey Warden companion who was a Templar

I mean companions-wise. Don't they have to balance out?

Good point. Carver was optional though. It would make sense for Cassandra to have the Templar spec even if she was never a Templar per say. I can't imagine the Chantry offers very diverse training.

Yea, it does make more sense for to have it. Though out of all the companions her and Cole are the main ones I could see getting their own specialization

Welp, it's not happening according to Word of the Maker. Cole is most certainly an assassin. Not gonna post spoilers, but it's the only spec that makes sense for him.

I don't remember the names of the talents, but one was a battle standard and another was a war horn. Those seem like the sort of talents a champion would have.

Spoiler

Not to go off topic again, but Batman has canonically been with one of the most sought after pieces of DC tail for the longest time, and its been him pretty much exclusively, and yes im talking about Catwoman Selina Kyle, Batman cannot ever complain about the type strays that follow him home. (I wanted to use the other word but i might get warned if I do. :P)

I think They might be general warriors talents.

he might still have his own unique skill or two outside of any tree (The Inquisitor has some.) so while Assassin is most likely his spec, i wouldn't write off his other penned abilities as not appearing in game.

Could be. It's rather uncertain. However, they did seem very much in line with the current description of the Champion spec.

The general tree called Vanguard is also about protection, though.

This is the Templar spec description: These unrelenting warriors specialize in fighting mages and demons. No enemy's magic can withstand them, and they inspire and protect their allies with their righteous power.
