But why would she be addicted to lyrium? Seems out of place if you ask me.

Everyone who uses the abilities of a Templar needs lyrium and once they start, they'll have to continue unless they want to end up brain dead.

If she's uses Templar abilities she will need Lyrium to use them. Especially given that Bioware want the specializations to have some meaning storywise.

DG confirmed that Templars need lyrium to power their abilities. If Cassandra has the Templar spec, she needs lyrium to power it, thus she could be addicted to it.

We have seen characters going through withdrawal in Howe's dungeon. But I view Cassandra's dependency as analogous to Alistair's taint. It's going to be very painful in a few decades, but unlikely to be a big problem now.

I might be wrong, but when I say Cassandra is addicted to lyrium I mean that needs lyrium to use templar abilities and to Not suffer withdrawal, Not that she'll constantly craves it (I think templars are fine if They keep if under control) . She might suffer from the side-effects, but I don't think it'll necessarily happen, and she probably has years before the side-effects will appear.
