Well according to Gaider, in DA Origins, both Templars and Mages were originally going to suffer from Lyrium withdrawal, mages specifically from Lyrium potions they consume during the game. They also use a lyrium potion during the Harrowing iirc.
So yeah, all those Lyrium potions your mages were drinking? Totally means they were drug addicts as well, as least as much as Alistair was.
Irony that Rogues are clean.
Hey, guys, in case you didnt see
@Mike_Laidlaw Yo Mike! Is there any word on whether Iron Bull screams ATAASH QUNARI! During fights? He's still part of the Qun right? Ish?

Mike Laidlaw @Mike_Laidlaw There is no word on that. There is also no word on whether Cass yells “Nevarra 4 LYFE, bitches!”
Why isn't this a thing?
Lovely colours!

Well, I or my companions have never used lyrium potions.
Evangeline from Asunder was shown to have control over it, the same could go for Lambert as well
So while they could be addicted to Lyrium they also have full control over it and can last at least a week or so without it
An addict in control is still an addict.

*Looks at big cup of coffee next to computer* Hey, Cass and I have something in common!
Well, I or my companions have never used lyrium potions.
Not even when you needed the extra lyrium in combat?
Well, I or my companions have never used lyrium potions.
If you were a mage PC you used lyrium.
You use it to enter the fade for the harrowing.
Enjoy that addiction.

So every PC period is an addict.

You don't ingest the Lyrium in the Harrowing ritual.
Grey Wardens use Lyrium in the Joining as well.
True, but Wardens don't have to keep drinking the Joining Juice to stay being a Warden and thus don't develop an addiction to it.
Interesting enough, never needed Lyrium potions for my Mage.
As for Cass, could it not be possible that she never got all that far in Templar training before being potched for the seekers. Seekers were pretty much the guys that policed the Templars so it won't really make much sense for them to be trained just like temps and have all the same weaknesses as them.
She is a Pentaghast after all, it's not hard to imagain that she was pretty well trained from a young age and before those blood mages killed her family.
But guess we'll find out soon either which way.
We know she wasn't a Templar before becoming a Seeker due to Dawn of the Seeker. People are saying that like Lambert she would learn it after being a Seeker.
Regardless, to use Templar abilities one must ingest Lyrium on a regular basis, and that leads to addiction.
You don't ingest the Lyrium in the Harrowing ritual.
You ingest it via skin contact.
Skin has pores which are these neat little tiny openings that give way to muscle and veins and all those other things inside your body.
That's why you can be effected by certain substances without ever drinking or inhaling them.
The more you know! ![]()

The point is, if you played Origins past the prologue, you did, in fact, use Lyrium.
Also, the Joining arguably has worse side-effects that Lyrium addiction.

Becoming a darkspawn *shudders*

I never said one doesn't. I said one doesn't ingest Lyrium. There is a huge difference.
And overall it seems about the same. Separate in symptoms but equal in results.

That is true. But then I go back to my Joining explanation and say you use it once, so addiction may not occur.
Becoming a darkspawn *shudders*
Ghoul actually. The only person to become a Darkspawn we know of is Corypheus, and that's because he was one of the Magisters that entered the 'Golden City'.
Well, I or my companions have never used lyrium potions.
Is that Casual difficulty or simply headcanon?

You should read the WOT passage on the effects of the usage of Lyrium.
Its like Heroin.
One usage is enough.
Ghoul actually. The only person to become a Darkspawn we know of is Corypheus, and that's because he was one of the Magisters that entered the 'Golden City'.
I never really saw the distinction.
Ghouls hear the call; Ghouls are tainted creatures, about the only thing that separates them from Darkspawn is that they are not born tainted.

You do ingest Lyrium during the joining. It's in the cocktail of darkness that you drink.

I think men can turn into darkspawn as well if they get tainted enough like women but since will essentially just be a regular darkspawn instead of a broodmother like women, there is no point to it.
Anyways, since we're back to lyrium addiction again should we now go back to the topic of the Inquisitor being a templar/mage and snorting lyrium dust off of Cassandra's breasts and ass again as well? At least that way we can say we went full circle on the topic at the very least. ![]()

Remind me to never go to a Grey Warden party and get a drink from the bartender there.

Well a ghoul
I never really saw the distinction.

Ghouls have physical differences and lack intelligence... they are more like zombies than anything else. Darkspawn are born directly from Broodmothers and can use magic through the Taint, whereas ghouls gain nothing from being tainted. It's a degenerative condition, nothing more.
