You should read the WOT passage on the effects of the usage of Lyrium.
Its like Heroin.
One usage is enough.
You do ingest Lyrium during the joining. It's in the cocktail of darkness that you drink.
Example:
*right*
You realize you're ruining Origins for me right?
I think men can turn into darkspawn as well if they get tainted enough like women but since will essentially just be a regular darkspawn instead of a broodmother like women, there is no point to it.
Broodmothers are still just Ghouls.
I never really saw the distinction.
Ghouls hear the call; Ghouls are tainted creatures, about the only thing that separates them from Darkspawn is that they are not born tainted.
For example, Ghouls are still mortal while the Darkspawn are ageless.
._.
*Draws the murder knife*
*Draws dual daggers*
Ghouls have physical differences and lack intelligence... they are more like zombies than anything else. Darkspawn are born directly from Broodmothers and can use magic through the Taint, whereas ghouls gain nothing from being tainted. It's a degenerative condition, nothing more.
Did the Ghoul Warden's conditions seem degenerative?
Utha was tainted decades before DAA and still was capable of fighting as a warrior when everything ever said on the subject claimed she should have died shortly after becoming a ghoul.
The calling always cast suspicion on just what "ghouls" could become if they survived to me.
You realize you're ruining Origins for me right?
That really ruins Origins for you?

Certainly takes it down a few pegs. I don't like the fact that my character is forced to be a substance user. It's like Shepard becoming a drinker all over again.

The Joining causes the Taint to slow down in such a way that the effects take decades to set in rather than days... with that in mind, I don't see how a Warden's fighting ability makes much of a difference. If they were becoming Darkspawn, they would be getting stronger in old age... perhaps even gaining magic abilities when previously they had none. Since the Joining is an abnormal method of Tainting an individual, you cannot look at Grey Wardens for similarities between Ghouls and Darkspawn...

Better than let the Blight destroy the world.

Lyrium's like sugar, it's in almost everything.

I don' think Utha can be used as a counterexample considering she is with the Architect. Dude accidentally cured the Taint, so wouldn't be surprising if he could preserve a ghoul's mind.

Maybe they put Lyrium in cookies ![]()
Maybe they put Lyrium in cookies
That explains Sten's craving for them.

How do you think Sten got addicted? Probably broke into Alistair's stash of "Special Cookies."

The game has been out for years now and if you don't want spoilers then don't go into the forum of one of it's sequel.
I think people becoming Darkspawn is a 3 step process. Hespith was a ghoul and wasn't a broodmother yet.
1. Have the blight sickness in which you either die or become a ghoul.
2. Become a ghoul which is essentially a mindless zombie in some respects.
3. Become a Darkspawn if one gets tainted enough. This mainly applies only to women since darkspawn use them to make new broodmothers.
Broodmothers are still just Ghouls.
You know, I always imagined that becoming a Broodmother was some long and involved process that went beyond simple ghoulification... at least, that's the impression that Hespeth's song gave me in DA:O. Like the Darkspawn were... um... doing things to the captives over the course of a long period of time.
Anyway... this has nothing to do with Cassandra, so that's the last thing I'm going to say about Darkspawn...

Nom nom
i want lyrium laced brownies now
And here come the drug jokes. Yay. ![]()

Not that kind of ruin. I've played Origins many times.

Well, whether they are getting high off lyrium as a side effect, Templars need it to do their jobs. This is one of the least unsavory aspects of the DA setting IMO... I don't know why it's such a problem for you, but I'm afraid that's just how it is. If this was a strictly recreational drug habit, I might be on board with what you're saying, but it isn't.
Also, we don't know for sure that Cass has the Templar spec, and if she does, it will likely be swept under the rug like it always has been...

Perhaps; But given we encounter ghouls that have retained some semblances of their mind i wouldn't rule out the process being strictly limited to Wardens; we haven't really ever saw an in depth case of how the taint progressed from exposure to ghoulification.
And we haven't witnessed the final stages of the ghouls lives, for example Ruck who was tainted for a half decade before the PC ran into him and was still coherent enough to act as a merchant.
So perhaps the blight and ghoulification are merely a progressive condition but the point remains that you don't need to be a Warden to withstand the corruption of it, perhaps it has something to do with innate constitution.
What i wouldn't give for a few test subjects to play around with...

You let Avernus live, didn't you? Sounds like you two would get along fabulously. ![]()

lol, reminds me of this:
I wonder will Cass be warning us to never get high on our own supply?
She could be DAI' version of Scarface. ![]()
