Rrrright. A "story thing"
If you watch the video there's a pretty funny bit after that.
Spoiler
I'm still having trouble wrapping my head around falling off of things in Dragon Age. :S
"I don't like it thus it's illegitmate. Also sexist."
So, may you explain to me what kind of story "reason" would require a character removing one of the their defining traits?
As far as I remember she had this scar even in her concept art

You have to admit though, without the scar, she'll just be more popular. At least among any shallow gamers.
Not sure if it's a good thing or not. It is what it is.

Told you... if making her more attractive to those complainers who find masculine women "ugly" was one of the reason... ugh, I expected so much better from Bioware who talked quite a lot about fighting the stereotype of stereotypically beautiful characters and about giving each character a unique features
Heck, I just don't get it - the scar wasn't making her overly masculine, it wasn't making her ugly, it was a nice trait which caught attention and told a lot about her personality and way of life
Hmm, maybe it's like the icons. The more damaged a characters gets, the more scars they get?
Wait, she has no scars now?

Androgynous girls are so unf, goddammit Bioware, this hurts me.
it was good song... but my fave is not your kind of people... first fight song... memoriesNow my mind is playing Garbage's song androgyny. Not complaining, just stating.
Can we not bring the overreactions back
I had thought personality mattered the most?
Not a scar that is a barely visible thin line.
I'd care her firm features (which she still has), her shorter hair and sharp eyes more defining. But sure let's pretend one scar is her most defining feature.
Maybe they thought to go a different way? Didn't think it looked good.
Concept art rarely represents the final game. Merrill, Isabela and Cassandra herself show that.
Hmm, twist my words and pretend that making a female character "prettier" due to dudebros complaining isn't sexist, that's professional
Personality is what matters the most, attitude and habits. But appearance is one of the ways a character shows what and who they are. That's why it should be treated carefully. it's an art, and using stereotypes to make it is just plain wrong
Her scar was one of her most defining features. How many female character you know who actually have scars? How many in DA series.
Her latest concept art fitted her latest trailer appearance. Now it does less so. What a shame

I hope it's still there, I liked that battle-hardened look on Cass, pretty hawt. I'll be giving my fem Inquisy a scar anyway.

Maker's breath, the term "dudebro" is losing all meaning from its overuse on this thread alone.
What stereotypes are you talking about? And what concept art are you referring to?
I agree, I liked the scar, but I think it's a mistake to assume it was removed to satisfy the desires of any particular group. Every decision made during the creation of a fictional character, visual or otherwise, is deliberate. Real people self-define, fictional people are defined by their creator/s. Like a sculptor or painter creating a piece, every little detail is agonized over. Perhaps it would be best to give Bioware the benefit of the doubt.Told you... if making her more attractive to those complainers who find masculine women "ugly" was one of the reason... ugh, I expected so much better from Bioware who talked quite a lot about fighting the stereotype of stereotypically beautiful characters and about giving each character a unique features

Unaware I was meant to be profession, good to know sweetling.
That said, do you got evidence to back up those claims of that dudebro influence? Best you got is some people complained, Cassandra changed slightly suddenly sexism.
But I think I'm done arguing, raise pitchfork and torches all you like if it makes you feel special.
Quite a lot people complained. Then the twitter messaged mentioned her "getting hotter" and now we see some subtle but important changes. Which aren't all bad, but the lack of a definite scar, seemingly less intimidating, dark make up and softer angles are upsetting. Pretend that such things don't happen all the time to female characters in video games, comics, cartoons, film etc if that makes you feel like a jerk
You know, at least unlike you I didn't act like so rudely towards other users, huh
Have a good die... eh, day
I'm off for now, bye
Everyone's a freak in the sheets after they've met the right person.Hey new topic: How much is cass a freak in the sack. Is she into S&M or just really kinky that shocks even the most lewd person
.
Lets keep this tgread happy
Why get rid of the scar though? Why?
You can't see her scar on the pic from 2013 PAX demo (it's a few page ago) and that old picture is in the right angle to see it, this one is not. The scar is not demarcated enough from her skin tone to show up in crappy resolution pics.

I seem to recall that twitter exchange. It was between QA analyst Allan Schumacher, a very open-minded guy who frequents these forums, and QA tester Carson McConnell, a lesbian (if I am not mistaken).

What stereotypes are you talking about? And what concept art are you referring to?
Dudebros aka those straight white men who represent the major demographic. Unfortunatelly also folk who shows the most common of sexist, racist, homophobic tendencies in the video game fandoms. They're like Social Justice Sallies among Social Justice Warriors or "1firstcomment!111" among youtubers etc. Not always but quite often
And the meaning isn't going anywhere. It's a pretty convinient term to use to specify which group of people one's talking about
Cassandra's concept art and commentary to it. It was a pretty nice read and it's sad to see that it has lost a bit of meaning

The evidence tells me that any changes made to Cassandra were in line with delivering the best possible rendition of this character.
It happened with Ashley so I'm pretty sure it happen again. I have hard time imaging why in the world they would get rid of the scar if in her concept art if was definied as important. It's not even such a difficult detail. Just look at Iron Bull's face
Anyway, I'm pretty sick of people saying that prettifying tough female characters is okay and not a common problem in the media at all. Didn't really expect such talks to appear here, on BSN out of all places... maybe Bioware Russian Community where an appearance of a female dwarf caused some people to go hysterical but here...
*sigh*

Long story short: "They are not making her character the way *I* want her to be, and thus it automaticaly sucks"
Everyone has their own standards of what they find pretty or not. Just because someone doesn't think the exact same way you do, it doesn't make them jerks or sexist.
