Dead serious. You need to be as crazy as Anders or naive as Merrill to think working with these guys is an good idea.

Oh you meant in that way.

Never mind then.

Proceed to spew your venom then.

Or you're letting blind paranoia and fanatism cloud your judgment.

To be honest i thought she was inferring Cass a warrior could have gone elsewhere; Which truth be told she likely could have.

With her skillset it wouldn't have been hard to find work as a soldier or mercenary.

Not even Leliana dropped her faith, even if hardened. Becomes more independent, yes, but never abandons the Chantry.

Besides this, I think it sends a bad message.. giving players the power to change people's religions. It's different if someone has a crisis of faith on their own, but I don't think it should be in the power of the player.

@Areskeith: What's that supposed to mean? If by chance you are trying to accuse me of double standards, you are dead wrong. Because while I may favor the mages, I don't think twice before killing or punishing them if they comit an crime. Neither I intend to let them do as they please without restriction.

I'd hope you would think twice before killing anyone even if they have commit horrendous crimes. But I'm not a supporter of the death penalty.

If that was the case, I don't think she would have worked for the Chantry in the first place.

I meant that she think for herself and tend to brake the rules/laws/duties/traditions if they gets in the way of what she think is right and just. She does plenty of that in DotS. She does it again when the Seeker Order split from the Chantry but she stayed with the Divine and again, at the start of DAI, with the Inquisition.

From all we know of her, she joined the Chantry/Seekers because she though it was the group with the goals and objectives that matched her own. Tell me, how many organisations in Thedas exist to stop demons, evil mages and protect the innocents?

Not to mention it's an organization that fights corrupt chantry and templar officials. They're pretty balanced.

My comment came from the fact that you said Cassandra wouldn't join the Qun because they are all about following rules, traditions and duty. And my point is that the Chantry is just about the same in that regard. They just do it in an different way. Not to mention doing good work doesn't justify everything. Jusk look at Cerberus. They certanly did good work in certain areas after all.

So these things are pretty relative. Just how many innocents were killed during the exalted marches? How good is the life of the people that refuse their teachings? I just find it ridiculous how Cassandra is described as this pious and noble character, but is blind to all the rotten things happening to the organization she serves.

Obviously, she's not blind. She stuck with the Divine and her more moderate vision. Instead of joining the Seekers who followed Lambert's path.

Past history isn't enough to make someone drop a religion totally though. I'm a Christian, but I'm pissed off that there weren't many condemnations of slavery for centuries. But I'm not dropping my beliefs because of other people.

Well, we'll see in the game how resonable she is.

I was also an christian during my youth. But as I got older I completely dropped it once I examined it's beliefs and the people that followed it. It's even worse in third world countries, were people are less educated and then follow it even more strongly.

I guess it worked differently for me. I was a huge jerk in my youth. You'd like me more now compared to then.

Or at least, I hope. ;)

I'm not beyond examining my own beliefs either though. I'm just talking about... a kernel of faith.. that axis point that grounds people. They don't abandon it easily. I think Cass is probably similar. And Leliana.

I guess it's just me, I aways was the kid that was different from everybody else. My opinions tend to annoy the people around me. Not sure if I got better compared to my kid self. As I used to be much nicer as an kid, but I was also very naive and quite the wimp that never stood up to others. That's about the only lesson I carried from my childhood: "keep your opinions to yourself and you will avoid an whole world of frustations".

So that's why I try to stay flexible. If I see an ideology or belief is just terrible and unaceptable, I don't think twice before dropping it and never go back to it again. So that's why I feel extremely frustated when I see these characters following these groups and not quitting them even if they see their darkest side. It's just illogical to me.

The Qun and the Chantry are not the same at all. The Qun force a role on all of its members. You are nothing in the Qun except a body that fill a pre-defined role and keep the cog running.

The Chantry is an evolving entity where laws and dogma changes with pretty much every new Divine it gets. Also, Cassandra was rather naive when she was younger.

Finally, you seems to put way too much of your own bias into what she should be doing. Cassandra is not you. Everything she does is based on what she believes is right and just, not what you believe is right and just.

That's assuming people are logical.

Also, just for reference, real-life religious discussion isn't allowed.

Pointing out the rules doesn't make him a dictator, so how about we cut back on the names.

Cassandra takes a dim view of bullshit, and so do mods.

I disagree with that point, the Chantry changed very little over time. The only noticeable change I would get from them is that they caused less conflicts in the past couple of centuries. Their laws and dogmas are mostly the same from centuries ago.

Well, we will agree to disagree in what Cassandra should be doing. I don't think this argument will go further then that.
