Have you never played mage before? They most certainly can.
Did I mention KEs have the only healing spell in game. Kind of important to just throw that in now. No mana required.
All spells have cooldowns. Which prohibits spamming. Some longer than others. I don't care to accept defeat until I know more facts.

Spirit Blade has no cooldown and cost only 10 mana per hit, not even swing. 300% Staff damage which doubles combined with barriers and guards. Mages have access to heavy armor this time around, so they'll take just as much damage, less actually, than the warrior who has no protection to it. KEs have the only healing spell in game. KEs can phase in and out of combat. Barriers detonate for 1000% weapon damage. Direct melee damage is reflected. Spirit Blade reflects all projectiles. If you think a few more hit points can make up the differece, all the power to you.

Can rogues still spam bombs and poison coatings on their blades like in Origins? That was pretty effective back in the day.

I didn't just say hit points. I'm talking about cooldowns too. You don't just get to unleash on a warrior at will. You have to close in first, or kite and control, and find an opening. For a mage, that strategy also takes spells most of the time. What's important is what power and mana is available after you get done with that.
I don't doubt that they're badass, but I need to know how it actually plays out. What I mean by "facts". I'm not going to decide anything without even seeing the game.

Mages are just a staple of fantasy for me. I could never be that hyped about them though. I tried to explain earlier that I'm a "tool" person. I like working with my hands. I like musical instruments more than singing. Things like that. And if I go back to my earliest fantasies, it's always about breaking things and stage fights with mock weapons. I never once said, "Oh, I want to be the guy who controls people with his mind."
