I don't know if they're even serious about being hit. I think some people just like strong women. Personally, I like them. I get more frustrated with overly sentimental women.
Bioware's known for writing both types though, so Cassandra isn't exactly new. Jack, Ash, and Miranda were on the strong side. Tali and Liara were a bit maudlin. For example.
edit: I might have to say that Morrigan was too much on the cold side, for me. I have limits.

I Had a coworker once (in the military) Who was into giving and receiving pain in bedroom. Loved to brag about it before condemning you for judging him, which we weren't. I just didn't want to hear about how a Cat'o'nines made him excited.
