Eh, point still stands. Helper's kind of awful. I hated Bethany, Sebastian, Anders, and the anything below Fereden that wasn't Bhelen.

As to this, again, I'm not sure what the problem with Cassandra believing in the player is? Do you not believe in her? It's not like she's hiding behind you be some damsel in distress. She takes the front and is the protector. Side by side with the Herald of Andraste. I can honestly think of nothing more beautiful.

It's only beautiful depending on who the Herald is. ;)

That's the problem.

I probably would like your Herald. And I like mine, of course. Probably most people's really. But it gets iffy eventually. And repugnant in cases. I hate the thought of her deferring to some of the asshats who play this game. I LIKE the character that much. lol

On that note, I still have to admire Gaider and the other writers for sending their characters out "in the wild" like that. I don't think I could do that. I'm very... possessive of anything I create. I'm mainly a musician, but I can still relate it to this. I don't like seeing things I do get modified or molded by someone else.

As I said, people who are complete and total asshats aren't discussed here. They and their Inquisitors can exist in whatever world they wish to pursue. It is their right as a consumer, just as it is my right to not like them. But in the end, they bought the game just like the rest of us. They'll be gone soon enough, and we will remain.

I'll try to keep it in mind. I know you're right. :)

I don't know why it bothers me so much. But I only mention because it just goes back to my original response. I could have been happy with her in a novel or something too, completely under Gaider's control.

I kind of see her as a protagonist in her own right, I guess. Hero of Orlais, etc..

I didn't mind Bethany, and never got the DLC for Sebastian, and Anders was always just sort of "there" for me. I think the Dwarven lore in DAO would have been better if it were discussed in some other fashion than long-winded lectures (that, and stereotypically Dwarven). By that, I mean that they live underground, are vaguely connected to "the Stone", and their economy is based around mining a precious mineral that is highly desirable to the surface. All they needed were horned helmets and more Viking-sounding names and it would have come full circle. The Dwarves being traditional and pseudo-isolationists was a nice change though.

Yeah, much as I try to, straight guy is the one that I can't do.

But I do appreciate her character.  She's great.

Hepler is a pretty amazing writer. It's her romances specifically I find unsatisfactory. But she did a fantastic job on the worldbuilding with the dwarves. And Gaider wrote Anomen.

As for ******* Inquisitors and their players, can we distinguish between "I am going to antagonize Cassandra because she is insufficiently fawning" and getting those massive approval hits from legitimate RP concepts that are going to involve doing and saying things Cassandra hates without any particular malice toward her personally. Say a devout Dalish ready to storm a barricade somewhere.

Not sure I understand. Part of your post is censored.

All I can add is I'm not a fan of the new approval system. But then, none of them are particularly great either. The one thing DAO and DA2 have over this though is that you have more chances of having a real falling out with characters.

Not really. Those things had nothing to do with approval. The exist in this game too.

When the hit was enough, it had plenty to do with approval. Like telling Alistair that Duncan deserved to die. You get a pretty big hit from that, and he won't even open conversation unless you grovel back and apologize. It felt like a real break in communication and friendship, where opinions could be so strong that it was hard to get back from.

Maybe I haven't explored enough. It certainly doesn't happen with Cass. She's not like Alistair. She's more essential.. which is both good and bad.. And she has the added weight of being the "Believer". This is what I find unfortunate about her direction. While it can be "beautiful" for most people, she is that way to everyone. Which kind of strips of it of meaning. She's the Believer of anything and anyone.

They don't make us suffer for our choices within this game enough. Maybe they will in the next game, but I like when I feel the impact in the here and now.

edit: So far, I've only one run into a tough choice with Cole.. when recruiting him. It's not the same. It's more of a recruitment thing. Not a relationship breaking down.

Companions can come and go all the time based on decisions. Cassandra will also stop talking to you if approval is low enough. Everyone does. Solas definitely did.

Last night, I finally was able to initiate fully the romance with her. She's turning out to be one of my favorite Dragon Age characters. And that's saying a lot. XD

I really liked Cass's romance. Just wish how the relationship went after the credits was less vague.
