He doesn't actually influence you, but you're under his influence. The mark, the key. That's Solas' key, as I understood it. Basically as soon as I realized the Orb was his and that my mark was linked to it, I knew. Then there's the stuff Morrigan said with the Eluvian which just confirms it. It was clear Solas had a hand in all of this really from the minute he grabbed my hand in the very beginning of the game. Some random mage who knows a lot about this stuff gets thrown in and that's that?

Naaaaaa.

I'm aware of that, but I think it's more complicated. Bottom line, he just cares about fixing this mess now.. and there's nothing he can do about the mark other than help you use it. He'd probably do it himself, but that's out of his hands now.

Sure if that makes sense to you. We can always go back to the classic Wonder Woman comparison and then end up talking about Batman v Superman. Again.

You say that because you just love talking about yourself ;)

It is, but there wasn't a need for me to go further into it. I wasn't saying Solas was influencing your mind anyway. Anyone with eyes can see that. I'm just saying that you're under his influence, as your power is his.

Hmm, well that's a different use of the word "influence" than I would use, but I get your point.

Yeah I saw that. LOL

Bale did a lot of things for Bruce Wayne, but after Begins his Batman went down hill.

Solas may have given Cory the Orb but he isn't manipulating you or influencing you just because he can do if he wanted to.

Just to add.. there's something more deadly and binding when it comes to Flemeth. That's why I don't compare Solas' "influence to it.

Like when Hawke first meets Marethari, she talks about the gravity of the debt you owe to Flemeth, and how you have to keep your promise.

Sigh, I see people aren't familiar with that usage of influence.

This. From what I can tell, Solas gave Corypheus the orb because Solas had recently just woken up from some deep slumber and was too weak to activate the orb on his own, but he did a 180 when Corypheus turned out to be batsh*t crazy and wanted to take over the world, so he decided to work with the Inquisition to bring him down and retrieve the orb (though the orb ends up being destroyed).

It's funny how the Trickster is ultimately deciding the fate of new "god of thedas" just by doing this. And ultimately throwing in his support for the Maker and Andraste, indirectly.

Ehh, I wouldn't call it funny. Fen'harel is more akin to a god of rebellion, not mischief and trickery. Solas says so himself. In this light, his actions are perfectly in character, because he is rebelling against a god (or a wannabe god pretender).

IIRC, Solas actually likes the Chantry. Rather, he likes that the Chantry provides people a sense of community and provides grounds for morals, but he disapproves of several things the Chantry does. I remember him mentioning it to Cassandra in party banter (don't quote me on that though, I've had a total of 3 banters between Solas and Cassandra come up over 40 hours, and they've been in my party the entire game across every single location, so I could be remembering it wrong).

Yeah, I know. He also says he's open to the idea of the Maker. Pretty remarkable actually.

But it's still funny to me. It makes me wonder what else he has had a hand in, in the past.

Actually, on that note, the same could be said for Flemeth.

Every time I hear "Solas says or heard or studied or found out" I think to myself "whatever, that mothereffer was probably there when it happened".

I'm talking throughout history. First as Mythal, then  awakened since the Towers age.

That's why I always play as a human in Origins and Inquisition.

Dwarf works if you hit on Harding. Even better if you helped Burkel found a Chantry in Orzammar in DA:O. His faith was rewarded with a Dwarven prophet.

LOL that's hilarious. Do you ever see him in game? It would be funny as hell seeing his reaction to a dwarven inquisitor.

Nah, wasted opportunity IMO. Should have been a war map op at the very least.

People play Dwarves... after playing every variation of human there is first. And they actually put more effort into the different backgrounds than I thought they would. I was sure Qunari was going to end up being "horned humans".
