People play Dwarves... after playing every variation of human there is first. And they actually put more effort into the different backgrounds than I thought. I was sure Qunari was going to end up being "horned humans".

Nah. Most don't even finish the game.

I wonder if they'd ever make a set up for a game where playing a human makes about as much sense as a Qunari Herald of Andraste. Maybe a dwarvencentric or elvencentric plot.

That would be ballsy and I'd respect them for it.

Not if they actually want to sell copies.

The Empire is still there to keep it human related. If the only presence on Vvardenfell were the Dunmer...shivers. Part of why the Empire of Man, or something close enough must continue. Plus the dwarves of ES aren't even dwarves, per se.

Well yeah. The Qunari are still there in DA:I through Iron Bull and the Ben-Hassrath if you recruit them. So why would we assume the influence of human nations wouldn't be felt if a game revolved around non-human lore?

The story tried, but until the very last minute, they treat you like a citizen of the Empire. Humanish. If I'll be treated human, might as well be human.

What? Nah. PC was Nerevarine, Hortator, ect. The promo player character was some sort of Dunmer warrior-mage hybrid. You were born in Cyrodiil, but Morrowind really pushed you to play a Dark Elf 'returning to save your ancestral homeland'.

Whereas in DA:I you're the Herald of Andraste. Why not the Chosen of the Stone or some ****?

Like I said, very last minute, in the end, it weakened Morrowind and forced more Imperial authority.

You're remembering Morrowind wrong. You do a couple of missions as a spy. Then you get sent to talk to a Dunmer tribe in the ash wastes whose soothsayer recognizes you as the reincarnation of a long dead general-king prophesied to save their nation. That's not even 1/3 into the game.

As for the Imperial authority part. It's not so much Imperial authority as it is impending disaster.

Morrowind - Red Year

Oblivion - The Great War

Skyrim - Some bad **** is probably planned too

The world is better off without the Empire.

Skyrim is the seat of Humanity and it is the power that will reach its apex :P

They actually saved Hammerfell, by formally releasing it from the Empire and then giving them 'unofficial aid'. If the Empire hadn't cut them lose Hammerfell would have been subject to any treaty agreed upon between the Dominion and the Empire.

I'll need citations on that bit.

In multiple playthroughs of Skyrim and its expansion i have never ONCE heard of that.

That's an fancy way to put it. For what I remember, the empire tried to give redguard lands to the elves, and when that happened, our desert friends gave the imperials the middle finger and walked away.

Quite the opposite. The elves wanted southern Hammerfell. The Empire said "No". They went to war. It ended in a stalemate with a fractured Empire. Instead of fulfilling their treaty with the Dominion they released Hammerfell from the Empire and "discharged" all the Legionaires that wanted to help fight the Dominion allowing them to disobey orders. They also got to keep all that Imperial gear while they fought the Dominon.

If you mean the book "The Great War" And it's epilogue in which it mentions Hammerfell's repulsion of the Dominion the imperial author mentions that the Redguards should be thankful that the Imperial counterattacks in Cyrodil bogged down reinforcements that would have gone to Hammerfell.

Is that the "assistance" you are recalling?

If so its a very...subject sort no?

We're never gonna get back to Cassandra are we? :(

All I'm going to say on Skyrim and the Stormcloaks, is I wrote the book on the subject. Literally.

You want to know a thing or two on Skyrim's civil war, the real deal, then read that.

Not saying it isn't biased. But it's the only written account of the Great War we've got as far as I remember. It's up to you to discern what's the truth and what isn't. If there wasn't some truth in there he couldn't have pulled it out of his ass.

At first they said no, then the war started and ended, and then Titus signed the treaties, and then they said YES. The redguards had none of it and left the empire rather then give up their lands. There was no "discharge". The redguard angrily left the imperials while they tried to save face with the Thalmor.
