Nononononono, this one I actually mean. Like zero character growth. "I'm magic and it makes life sad," is not a character. Except for crazies, she's the poster child for everything that's wrong with mages.
That's a big part of character. It defines a real problem in the setting,and distinguishes it, from, say, D&D. That magic is a pain in the ass. edit: But it helps when it's embodied like this. That's the character part.
It's also a big part of boring. Bethany can symbolize whatever she wants, just like random magi girl in Origins could; it does not make her interesting to me. Especially when she stays static the entire story. Carver has growth. Carver matures. Carvers comes within his own and doesn't bend over backwards when I whimper. That is why I could never play rogue or warrior after the first time I played them. Did Bethany more service by letting her die an honorable death.

^Pfffft dunno what you're talkin' about, Carver's probably my favorite DA character. Maybe. He's pretty far up the list, at any rate.
I think she'd like them both, for different reasons.
She'd talk shop with Carver, philosophy with Beth.

But probably because I see a little Carver in myself. And my brother's a ******.
Even speaking as a Carver fan, I think Bethany's well within her rights to feel the way she does? She wants to be normal, and she doesn't think she's ever going to have that as a mage (and especially not as a Warden).
Like, yeah. Having demons dipping into your brain and people being terrified of you sucks ass.

I don't like her for being "static". I like her because she's one of only two mages that instills confidence in Kirkwall. The other is Feynriel. I have to work through more destructive issues with the rest (feynriel actually has the scariest power, but he doesn't scare me at all).

Making Bethany a warden is very interesting. I love Bethany, but she's kind of boring because she doesn't want to leave Hawke's shadow. So warden Bethany is 10 times better than circle Bethany.
Warden Bethany is like my Dalish. Both miserable. Made me hate the Wardens forever. lol

Aaaaah, now it makes sense. I was amazed when I learned that people actually liked Loghain too after a friend of mine showed me her book about him. Though after some time I got used to that idea and it made sense.
Carver however... I guess it's the same as why people liked Merril, myself included, despite her being such a complete moron. People like socially awkward outcasts. Something about them... saving them from their lonely existence is appealing.

Am I the only one not at all impressed with the idea of Cassandra interacting with ANY of the other DA 2 cast besides Varric? The banter would be underwhelming if you ask me.
At best, Fenris and Cass could talk about hunting apostates or something.

The number of guy between the two of them is like 100000002 , with 2 being Cass's tally. would be interesting to see them discussing that.
