Wow, people complaining that Cass isn't racist. Guess some people really have no lives if this is what they are arguing for. Now I'm hoping for Gaider to come lay that smackdown on you people. That would be priceless.

You really need to work on your reading comprehension if that's what you took away from all of this.

Blarghh, I'm not saying racial differences should be totally ignored. I would like for them to be discussed. I'm just saying that in the end there are some characters who aren't gonna be able to cope with those differences and some who're going to pursue the relationship no matter what. Cass (and Dorian, and Blackwall...) is one of the latter.

Without story or discussion, it just comes off as being done for the player's benefit. Not the character's per se. That's all I'm gonna say. In fact, the whole  Herald/Inquisitor role is player centric... even though, in fact, it's a Chantry thing (even according to Dorian). And all of this is ultimately shoehorned in.

edit: Someone elsewhere said this was the equivalent of DA2's copy and paste maps. I can't help but agree.

And all I'm saying is that while I accept that this is what the devs went with, it doesn't make a lot of sense. Just saying "Not everyone's going to have an issue with banging a cow man with horns" falls flat to me. And with a woman in her position with her beliefs, I think the players deserve some sort of explanation from her.

And before someone takes that the wrong way, all I mean is it feels rather unsatisfying and hollow for her to just accept it no problem with no one saying something. It's just... bland. Which is ironic for playing something so exotic. It's a lack of reaction to the player that to me feels empty. A lack of detail.

Just like anything that feels like a hole in the plot.

People said just because she's the right hand of the divine and a staunch chantry supporter, doesn't mean she would care about being with someone her organization has considered heathens. Well that's fine and dandy, but let her say that and explain that. Then say she's aware of the challenges when she's trying to be divine and blah blah. Otherwise, I can only assume this was lazily slapped together to please Qunari fans, rather than this being a genuine characteristic of the character in question.

Which explains why they sloppily threw them in at the last minute and consider a few War Table missions as well as Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts as race actually mattering.

Actually, I think tyranny of the word budget explains that.

Qunari fans.. and Qunari friendly developers, I imagine.

The fact that they had internal heated debates about the role of a "Qunari" divine tells me there's a faction in Bioware that likes to push this stuff. Regardless of how well any of it fits or not.

Love how its only qunari that you people want to deal with this and never elves/dwarves. I don't see you people complaining about Dorian and Bull getting together. Is it really that difficult to think that Cass simply doesn't care what other people think about her love life? I think you people just don't like qunari and want to punish people for playing them. Guess what, some people like playing qunari like me and are proud of it.

I'll happily deal with them if you wish.

The dwarf's backstory is shady. And Carta are lyrium smugglers. They have a cool reason for being at the conclave (unlike elves and qunari), but it's not a friendly one. I can't imagine why she never sees through this. Or why anyone playing a dwarf is suddenly going to use the Inquisition for good reasons.

The fact they had to water-down the Qunari Kossith Inquisitor into a Tal-Vashoth makes me believe that perhaps Bioware was pushed to the edge a bit during development.

We do all the time. We just did in fact. You've obviously never read this thread because....

I don't see you people complaining about Dorian and Bull getting together.

These two aren't the topic of it.

Is it really that difficult to think that Cass simply doesn't care what other people think about her love life?
And this oddly enough isn't the topic of this discussion.

The devs have said that if we were a qun-following Qunari, we would could never be inquisitor and the game would be completely different. If you're complaining about that, I should be right to complain that we can't play as a dwarf from Orzammar or a city elf.

There's that reading comprehension thing again. I believe this is the Cassandra Pentaghast thread, not the Bull and Dorian thread. And I haven't seen anyone bring up their elves or dwarves, so it never gets brought up.

How am I punishing anyone by expressing my opinion when people say "Qunari X Cass is the best pairing"? Do I have to agree when it's so hollow and forced to me?

The only problem with elves is their business at the conclave imo. That and they look more ridiculously feeble than Keiran.. Morrigan's kid. Isn't he like 8 or 9?

I liked this thread better when it was about a certain hot seeker, not seven foot tall ox men.

Can you provide the source for that statement?

I am convinced that Qunari Inquisitors could have easily started the game as a spy for the Ben-Hassrath, just as the elves and dwarves are spies for the Carta and Clan Lavellan.

EDIT: However, it would only make sense for a Qunari mage to start the game as a Tal-Vashoth because those born under the Qun would be Saarebas.

Ben-Hassrath spy for the qun would actually make more sense than a Dalish or Dwarven spy, too.

I rolled an elf inquisitor who romanced Cass, and I did think it unrealistic it was never addressed vis a vis the relationship. Sure, I'm the Inquisitor, but, for example, Celene nearly lost her throne for having an elven lover. Elf/human relationships are a BIG DEAL when it comes to the lore.

Anyone who played a city elf origin in DAO knows just how much elves are mistreated and reviled by humans. Heck, elves are routinely sold into slavery.

And there is NO mention of this by anyone? Either Cassandra herself or anyone else? Unrealistic and immersion breaking.

The only explanation I can think of is the dystopian tension between the races was written by someone different and when Gaider took over, he didn't like that, so he's tried to handwave it away as much as possible,

One thing positive for elves is the amount of content and backstory you can play with here. So while I still think their presence is weird at the conclave at first, they have a leg up on the others storywise (besides human, I mean). I'm tempted to play female Lamellan sooner or later.

Yeah, to continue the slightly OT discussion, the elf storyline is, IMHO, the best. A decent amount of unique interactions and the story becomes very personal at he end.

Obviously an 800+ page thread about something as broad a topic as a character is going to meander quite a bit, and that is fine. But if you are going to insist on trying to dominate the conversation with one specific sub-topic, please consider making a new thread. Also refrain from insulting one another, please.

Consider the sub-topic of Qunari spent for now.
