Going with the classics, I see.
I'm guessing you won't trade for two Lelianas and one Morrigan, huh?
I rolled an elf inquisitor who romanced Cass, and I did think it unrealistic it was never addressed vis a vis the relationship. Sure, I'm the Inquisitor, but, for example, Celene nearly lost her throne for having an elven lover. Elf/human relationships are a BIG DEAL when it comes to the lore.
Anyone who played a city elf origin in DAO knows just how much elves are mistreated and reviled by humans. Heck, elves are routinely sold into slavery.
And there is NO mention of this by anyone? Either Cassandra herself or anyone else? Unrealistic and immersion breaking.
The only explanation I can think of is the dystopian tension between the races was written by someone different and when Gaider took over, he didn't like that, so he's tried to handwave it away as much as possible,
Gaider has always been the lead writer for the DA series. Comparing Cass to Celene is apples to oranges. Cass is a warrior, no one special. Celene on the other hand oversees a kingdom which employs the use of elven slaves. This was the same with DAO with an elven or dwarven warden, you didn't see leliana/morrigan making a big deal about that. You have some characters who do have racial preferences, and those are outlined in game through race gating romances. Anyone else couldn't care less what your race is.

At least Leliana falls in the same category as Sera, particularly pointing out some attraction and liking for elves, and talks about barriers in culture for example (as Sera does with Qunari). Little things like that go a long way.

Leliana does have that whole "elves are sexy servants in Orlais" conversation. And you can give her a verbal smack down for it. Morrigan has lived her entire life alone in hut with an Ancient Elven godess masquerading as an old lady. Race wouldn't mean jack to her character.
To be that guy, I'm going to bold all things wrong in this post.

I think Morrigan admires the dwarf commoner in particular however. edit: For survival and upbringing, that is.

It's like some people play this with the volume/subtitles off. Or while listening to their iPod or some ****.

Finally, a voice of reason. Why is the race thing suddenly so important now?

It's been important. That goes hand in hand with just about any RPG.
See, more people should just roll humans and side-step all this fantasy race stuff.
I mean, Cassandra's human, and she's the hottest woman in southern Thedas.

To bridge off this, one of the stronger points of Leliana's story, even without romancing her, was getting over her preconceptions of elven people, especially the Dalish. I honestly thought that was one of the strongest parts of her character arc.
But that's just me.

You're probably joking, but there is reason to follow this.
The last thing that comes to mind when I think of "hottest woman" is pair her with someone totally unlike myself. lol. Or resembles something bizarre or monstrous. Don't even understand how I mentally get to that point. I'd rather insert into the fantasy. Not some other weird ass dude.

Because it's always been important. Much to my chagrin Thedas is a human-centric continent. Meaning people who aren't human get shat on, because they're not human. While it's not something I'm fond of I do like that it adds a sense of realism to the world itself. So introducing that and then trivializing it in what would probably be the most relevant situation it could possibly be brought up in is a disservice to the IP.
I for one would love to play a human with an elven parent. This would allow me to RP a character that's proud of his heritage despite all the disadvantages that come with it.

On a sidenote, they've also made humans pretty diverse (could be better, but still). They're all like seperate races/factions in themselves. It always annoys me hearing someone say they're boring (not that anyone here has). As if this is WoW or something (where humans are more uniform and actually boring). That just tells me they don't care about the setting's particulars at all.

There is a shocking amount of the usage of the word 'cute' in this thread. I would have thought the terms 'sexy' 'irresistable' or 'gorgeous' would have been more approrpriate...just saying.

I guess I didn't notice over all the arguing and ego flexing.

Have you flirted with Cass? Her denials are definitely cute and adorable.
Just saw the video of cass turning down a female inquisitor, and it was so well done. It was really mature in how she handeled it. Can cass get anymore amazing?
I saw that too and the thread about it, and I don't see what's the big deal. Are people amazed because she didn't shame her for being lesbian or something? If so... lol.

As a male I have...I did get a good chuckle out of "I am thinking less flattering things now." I am actually really enjoying their romance to a point and to this point, hopefully it changes and grows but right now my Male is so awkward around her and it really matches my head canon beautifully...I enjoy it when that happens. He just has these awkward little half laughs around her. Got to the book reading scene between her and my Inquisitor...in the game. "You know maybe I should read that." 'What...you can't! You are the Inquisitor!' *hawkward laughter*.
