Comparing an ancient "true" elf to a modern "shemlen" elf is like comparing a donkey to a warhorse or at least thats how I'd imagine the ancient elves view their mortal cousins.

It also makes sense why we meet ancient elves that are still alive. The only way for Elves to retain the immortality/inherent magic is to be separate from humans (and likely any mortal race). This wasn't a problem with dwarves because they lives underground so contact with them wasn't for extended periods of time. But with how rapidly humans spread, the only way to retain immortality was to go to a separate realm which is apparently exactly what the nobles of ancient elven socirety did, dooming the elven lower classes to becoming shemlen aka mortal.

Ah i actually now remember the dalish story teller in the Brecilian forest saying something about that.

Yeah, almost all the words were recognizable elvish. When some ancient horror is calling your mysteriously knowledgable elf buddy Trickster, and implies that he's not real/dead/lying...

I've decided that the Inquisitor is just really, really dense.

Well maybe he was just focusing on the amount of crazy stuff going on in front of him. :P

You know it is kind of a shame because that scene would have worked so much better with a city elf...

Yea the Elven Inquisitor should have definitely been able to bring it up in a conversation with Solas later.

Naw, the elven Inquisitor going "herp derp who's Mythal?" and not going WTF when Nightmare talks to Solas... all of that is sloppy implementation.

I just think the shemlen comment was an intentional slight against the Dalish Quis.

Mythal maybe, put the Dalish don't really know enough elvhen to translate that entire sentence. I also don't think the Sentinels are immortal, being in service to a god, they have probably lived through stasis.

Speaking of which I am just loving all of Solas's 'I saw this in the Fade' explanation...its a perfectly reasonable explanation but me knowing what he is does make you wonder if that is just his catch all hand wavy excuse and of course most Inquisitor's would not know any better to challenge him.

I know they cant be possessed by demons and are resistant to red lyriums but the taint, i havent seen anything in game that suggests that , i could be wrong though.

Red lyrium is tainted normal lyrium...

I dunno, I think most of the phrases he used are also used among the Dalish. Not all of them, but enough to earn a side-eye, anyway...

But yeah, Sentinels were mostly just being jackasses. I guess it's still "immortality" if it's dependent on someone/thing else?

You know how the Keeper sent you away from the clan on a "special mission"? Well, let's just say there was a reason you got picked da'len.

Keeping things Cass-related, I was kind of hoping that we could find chapters from Swords and Shields hidden around Skyhold similar to the ones for Hard in Hightown.

The problem with that line of thinking is, all Dalish don't know all words. They're way too fragmented. It's understandable.

The codex mention that most Dalish can't even form full sentences and most only know a few words/phrases. Seeing a word written in some ruin or old book does not tell you how that word was pronounced (in real life scholars are not certain how to pronounce ancient greek for this reason).

That would be funny.

I wonder if the cover art has a picture of Fabio on it.

Don't we see the cover of the book? It has a picture of a redhead that looks surprisingly like Aveline. Take a guess who the book is based on. :P

This Inquisitor just fits , to be fair though the Elven/Qunari/Dwarf Quizzies were a last minute kind of deal, when Bioware got that extra year of development they thought they could shoe them in and they did a decent job with them, as it stands however you can tell something is off , prime example of that is the Elven Inquisitor needing Morrigan ( who isnt even fluent in elvish ) to translate elven for him/her or getting called "shemlen " by another elf.

O and Merry Christmas!

It doesn't matter how much time they got. The premise of the story is what makes it off. Change the premise to fit the circumstances (for example, something more like the Warden's conditions). Don't keep the same premise and try to fit in randomnness.

I already explain why it makes perfect sense for ancient elves to call Dalish Inquisitors shemlen. They used the word correctly. Hint: shemlen does not mean human.

Doesn't shemlen just mean "quick ones"? It applied to humans at first.

As in quick to die, I assume. Passing through life without much thought (to an elf's eyes).

Exactly, and to ancient elves, the modern elves are no different from the humans. Hence, shemlen.

You know who Fabio is, right? He's the cheesy model on so many fantasy romance novels.

Quick Children. It must hurt to be applied to you even when you're an elf.

Only because modern elves have turned it into an insult. To ancients elves, every mortal must seem like foolish ignorant children that die so young. Then again, ancient elves are probably bigots. Because this is dragon age, and who isn't? :P

I saw you ended another post with "Cassandra". Is that meant to keep on topic?

That male/Cass pic earlier is one of the best I've seen for male/Cass pairings.. saw it a couple of days ago.
