Vivienne is my KE mentor... I guess that's her purpose. And my arch-conservative, if I wish to actually like the Chantry (which I do... I'm just torn on her and Cass' more moderate conservatism). "It [the Inquisition] was to be a means of change"... Sometimes I wonder how much I want to go there.
I don't care for Vivienne on a personal level, but unlike Fiona and some of the whiny mages we've met she realizes that professionalism and an understanding that the issues surrounding the Circle are greater than just the Mage-Templar debate. I respect her as a colleague and as an advisor on the Orlesian side of things, but I wouldn't go so far as to trust her as a friend.
I really felt like Cassandra and Dorian were the two characters that I got the closest to, and a lot of that comes from them being some of the few party members who actually undergo character development over the course of the game. Inquisition is an excellent game, but one of the things that I found myself missing from DA2 was the more intimate scale of the story. Hawke's band might have been incredibly dysfunctional, but there was a chemistry between everyone in the party that is missing from the Inquisition.
